It's possible that other companies will announce bigger ships by that time. Fincantieri is studying a larger ship (up to 180000 GRT) which will be proposed to Carnival. It seems strange to me that they are going to complete such a complicated ship (it's a prototype) in just ten months.

However, looking at Cunards background and prior pax it should be noted that the QM2 will probably be in a class of its own. Catering to an dedicated group that do not necessarily want to cruise on the other lines with Mega Ships.

Has the keel even been laid yet?

Aside from contracts announced, has any actual metal bending taken place?

In short, what is going on at the building site? Anyone know?

pungpui, I suspect that few, if any, lines will be in a position to have larger AND grander ships out than the QM2. Seeing as she's an ocean liner, and most lines are not interested in constructing ocean liners, she'll be in a class all by herself. Rest assured, she'll be the ultimate vessel when she's launched.

Did Joe at TravelPage just give a hint that Stephen is lurking around here maybe !
Im just joking because some people are very paranoid, but you never know maybe his people are lurking around the web for info like some do on BIG projects as QM2 is a BIG deal... Anyway if his people are reading i will not ask questions like people asked about the Great Eastern the largest and most odd ship of her time in 1860 as why she can stay afloat if so large but will the QM2 have a graceful stern like older ships ? there is a topic on that here at Cruise Talk

Too big is too big. I feel
like those who saw TITANIC for the first time.
It's too big and yes, there is the technology, but they can't rely on it
to save them. Again, folks
it's a matter of time. How
long will the envelope be
pushed before something really major happens? Are
people forgetting again? I think they are and getting
complacent. The toys maybe
pretty, but I for one still want them smaller and so do alot of us older
ones who the line would still want business from.
Go back to your drawing boards and start over again!!!!!
