We are I can't wait we are going to France for Easter, the Med in May and NY in September, I think I'll pack now and get away from this dreary weather. Roll on Summer. I don't mind how many disinfectant soaked mats I have to walk over

Here in NEW England.... advance bookings to the UK for summer are holding. Very few cancellations.
It is a serious situation for farmers, but not one that affects the general public or tourists. I had British beef today!
According to today's London Times at http://www.thetimes.co.uk :
"More than 90 per cent of footpaths and rambling tracks will remain shut for the Easter Bank Holiday because county councils have refused to lift orders banning walkers from public rights of way."
Current quotes from http://www.devonfarms.co.uk/ :
"You need to know and be aware that:you will not be able to walk, ride or cycle on any public footpaths, bridleways and cycleways within the administrative area of the county of Devon, except for those in totally urban areas."
"if you are plannning to visit Dartmoor National Park, all bridleways and footpaths are closed as are the Common areas; drivers are requested to avoid the moor if at all possible."
"if you are planning to visit Exmoor National Park, all bridleways and footpaths are closed; drivers are requested to avoid the moor if at all possible."

Hi JP, if the countryside is your thing you have a valid point.
Most tourist probably spend their time in the big cities and seaside towns, rather than off the beaten track.
Unfortunately I was very wrong. London was packed with overseas visitors as usual! I heard plenty of American accents, much to my surprise!
Only have 8 more sleeps to go before we leave our fine, cold shores down-under and head for your fine, cold shores up-there!!
We have contingency plans for not being able to get to the countryside as we normally do, which includes all the London museums and maybe some shows, as well as Edinburgh and the RY Britannia.
Will be gone for a couple of months - am sure I'll have plenty of reading to do on this board when I get back!!
cheersElaine

You will still be able to visit much of the countryside - it's mainly the farms that are out of bounds. I've just returned from a weekend in the Suffolk countryside.
