Well everyone,
I'm back after a long hiatus and am well enough to travel again. I have decided to hurry and do all the things on my to do list so cruising the QE2 was up there.

I will be going to Bermuda in September. I guess I finally gave in after years of being teased for being a HAL Fan, I will venture to a short trip on the "Queen". Unfortunately I cannot yet afford the month I want to spend in Great Britain so I did not book a transatlantic cruise. New York will be a first for me as well, so I'm really looking forward to this trip. I'm sailing with an open mind and I still can't believe I booked something six months ahead, (not my style).

When I look at the cost of this cruise I wonder what I got into. I'm sure I will be pleasantly surprised.

Welcome back.

New York is probably the only place in the world that I have been to and found that it was exactly what I expected it to be. It certainly lived up to my expectations.

Pity that you will not get to Britain for a while. Now is a great time to come, there are some bargain airfares from North America. They will not be this low for a while!

  • Remember Britain is not closed for business or Tourism!

  • People can't catch foot and mouth

  • Even London zoo is still open!

Welcome back Justine. I have been wondering how you were and what was happening. Are you going alone or did you talk your husband into going with you? When do you sail? I am sailing on the Amsterdam September 7th.

Justine, lucky you. Booking so far in advance gives you six months of something good to look forward to, and the 6 months fly by quickly.

I hear from the crew that Caribbean cruises on QE 2 are packed to the gills, so as you've said, go with an open mind, and not allow any minor hassles or problems to upset you.

While on board, be sure to find and say hello to these staff: Andrea Palfreman, the crewcut blonde who's the head honcho of Lido cafe; Warren Smith, dance instructor; Ico Pranic, maitre d'hotel of Mauretania Restaurant; Colin Parker, Cruise Director. They're the people who make the ship what it is, and will respond positively to any request you have.

Malcolm, you conveniently neglected to mention that people can get "mad cow" disease, but on the plus side, the incubation period is 30 years (or so I'm told). So elderly people in Europe continue to eat beef with gusto, but anyone under 60 is avoiding beef like the plague.

Have a great time on the QE 2, Justine. Ico's assistant manager told us that beef on board comes from the USA.

Have been to Bermuda twice on the QE2; once in April and another time over Labor Day weekend. Loved it. Just wish the Labor Day trip had been longer than 4 days. You are in for a real treat. Hope you don't mind being hot on the beach. If you jump in and out of that gorgeous turquoise water you will manage fine. We spent our time at Horseshoe Bay Beach--perfect. Right at the beach you can rent chairs, get food, shower etc. Enjoy that wonderful country and that great, gentile lady, the QE2.

    Hi everyone,
I just cant wait to come back and be able to give my opinion of the QE2, I always wanted to put in my two cents worth but my motto is:
If you havent been on this ship stay quiet. I'm sure I'll have a great time. There are dozens of reasons why I wanted to try it. Only one reason that made me hesitate for years.
Malcom, I promise to spend a month in Great Britain some day. It's on my "to do list". Next year will have great bargains and I'll probably be the first in line for Great Britain.
Sympatico, Bring my hubby on a cruise are you kidding.? .... It's solo cruising for me again.
