I sailed abaord the Rembrandt last year and found it very interesting that they had a cruise director abaord the ship for over 25 years. The cruise director sounded like a war hero with his vast stories he told, so interesting. He saided on the Holland American Line as a youngster and fell in love with the Rotterdam and stayed all those years with her and Premier kept him employeed with them as the ship became there Rembrandt. He shared stories of the tidal wave experience, being searched and held up in the middle east at war time with no fuel, and about the era of time when the ship was divided up down the center with the different class groups. This gentleman was in his 60"s and Irish I recall, and young in atittude and energy. I wish I could know his where abouts and if he finally retired after the Premier closing. I am sure he is saden by the closing of not only his job, but the end to the era of the ship he so love. I do hope the Rembrandt,(old Rotterdam) gets purchased soon and not scraped, everyday it sits doesn't help it condition, or the chance that people will still remember or want it back. Florida's Tampa and Bahama's ports seem to be a dumping point before the great funeral and meeting there makers in ships heaven.

Do you remember his name? I don't know any CD who has stayed with HAL for 25 years. I wonder if he was pulling your leg. All the ones I knew back in the'80's are long gone. If you can tell me his name, I know a couple of gals who used to be Hostesses on HAL and have since retired, so could ask them.
The only CD's I knew on the Rotterdam were David Lawton, Bryan Price and David DeHaviland. David Lawton is with the company that owns the Marco Polo - he was CD on that ship for a while and maybe still is. Don't know where Bryan Price is. Just heard that DeHaviland may be on the QE2.

Lawton was Welsh and Price & DeHaviland British.

Alan - have sent your message on to my friend on the Rotterdam VI, who has been with HAL for over 20 years and asked her if she knows who it is or if anyone on board knows. There are a lot of "old timers" on the World Cruise. Hopefully will get an answer soon.
Diane

Alan - was it Sean Meeney? I called a friend who used to work as a Hostess for HAL and when I read her your post she knew right away who it was. She said he was the funniest man she had ever met & worked with. Like you said, he had so many stories to tell and always had everyone laughing.
She said he had worked for HAL for 25 years, but left in 1979 and that is the last time she saw him. She said he might possibly have come back to work for HAL for a couple of months, but that would have been it.
She also would like to know where he is and speak to him again. If you ever find him, please let me know so I can let Joan know. She thought he was the greatest - and he isn't 60 - more like 70's. He used to live in Limerick so that is where he may be.
