What a handsome pair of twins these two were!! Does anyone have any pics of them? Bill Miller says they were two of the most luxurious ships on the Europe-South America route. If anyone has any interior pics, or knows where I can find some, please let me know...thanks...

I will add three more photographs of the ASTURIAS. Sorry, no interior photos and I don't know where to get them...

They were fine looking vessels and like the ANDES of 1939, they didn't had a forward split superstructure, which was a trademark of Royal Mail Line ships.

Thanks for the pics, guys. I also found out the ASTURIAS was used as a floating prop for "A NIGHT TO REMEMBER". Apparently her boat davits and upper decks resembled those of the TITANIC's.

Do you now that royal mail lines "ANDES" was broken up in my hometown Ghent. It must have been in the early seventies. I visited the ship as a boy and was impressed by her size.
Everybody could visit the ship to buy things. Its a shame that we din't buy a thing. I remeber also that there was a bad smell and the kitchen was very dirty. We even went to the lowest deck with a slippery floor because of pipes leaking everywhere. Strange because she just completed her last cruise . In a month time the ship was gone, but my father has still some slides with me and the ship. I think it was my first "cruise experiance"

Thanks for the picture AJL. Its a shame that I cannot post any of my pictures but as I already said it are slides and I don't now if it is possible to convert them .

Johan,

If you have access to a flatbed scanner, you should be able to scan the slides and convert them to a digital image. Most flatbeds come with some sort of attachment to allow slide scanning.
