Instead of spending a few days on the beach prior to a 10 night Caribbean sailing, we have decided to do a 2 night cruise aboard Ocean Breeze. As ship buffs the opporunity to sail aboard such a classic was too much to pass up on. I first saw the ex Southern Cross as the Calypso many years ago. Do any of you know what was done on her last refit a few months ago, and what condition she is presently in? Any idea of the service levels aboard? It is too late for us to change our minds, but any "bad" reports would be welcomed as well. I must admit that I was surprised at how booked she was. Business must be very good as there were few cabins left. I have the urge to try a few of the vintage steamships and classic liners before they sail off on a final voyage like Seabreeze is about to do. Some of you will probably think I'm crazy, but I am a happy cruiser even without the new mega ship's amenities!

Grant,

I hope you find yourself pleasantly surprised by the OceanBreeze. I've heard good things about her.

In fact, I'm so intrigued by this company (and I happen to have a soft spot for the ship) that I'm planning on jumping aboard her for two nights after the Sea Trade Convention in March.

Imperial Majesty seems to be doing very well, so well in fact, they should be making a decision on a second ship within a few weeks. And you can bet your bippies that they will be picking up some former Premier tonnage.

Tim

Grant, I hope you will post a review when you get back. I too have a soft spot for this ship as we had a terrific time on her when she was part of Dolphin. You'll find she has the most comfortable deck chairs you've ever laid in. I almost wish I had one of them in my cabin instead of a bed.

Side note to Joe, does Imperial Majest have a web site? Why is there no mention of Imperial Majesty cruises with the listing of the other cruise lines?

I
I sailed on the Oceanbreze two years ago when she belonged to Premier Cruises, which I truly loved. The ship is old and small, but roomy enough not to feel crouded when full. I sailed on her on her last 7 day voyages when she did the Costa Rican, Panama Canal Transit. The cruises ship has a lovely gift shop. Hall and decks full of rich well maintained wood. The intire ship is full of paintings of older famous ships including the Oceanbreeze herself throughout her career. Plenty of intimate little corners to get romantic or just read a book. The dinning area is comfortable and colorful yet has no windows, don't know why. The cabins are small like the prices they charge yet not uncomfortable. Premier gave excellant prices so does the new company. The pool is a photo opportunity in itself, it is about the size of two bath tubs or a large hot tub. The pool is clean and safe if no more than 5 persons swim in it at one time. The deck chairs are great, all wood, many different postions to move up and down, and all have extra thick blue cushions. I think that Premier should have sold the Seabreeze and kept this one instead, maybe because it was smaller in size. The ship is managed / owner by a popular hotel chain. They also sometimes offer good deals connected with a free stay and sales pitch to market there timeshare units in Central Florida near the beach and Walt Disney. All in all it is a good deal.
The hotel firm has money, they spend it on the ship and for advertising. The ship always is full, so they must be doing something right. They are also in the market I think to purchase or rent a few of the remaining Premier ships and sail from Florida as well.
It is a shame that Premier who's ships couldn't be in that bad of shape be kept and ran by them doing the same thing. It is still a good value and my favorite oldie but goody ships are being saved and used and not scrapped.
