I found this picture on the Net. I thought that the contrast between these two ships is interesting:

Whoops...thanks Joe, I did not see that one!

Although Travelpage has some fantastic resources, the 'navigation' can be rather tricky!

Did you all recognise the new ship in front of the Albatros?

Yep, that passenger carrying river barge in front of Albatros is the Millenium (a fine name wasted on a bad excuse of a cruise ship).
I tend to think that I like all cruise ships but she's on my "cruises ships that deserve a torpedo attack" list.

Hoi hoi! I really don't think you are being fair! Ok, she is, for the want of a better word, hideous, but that is only on the outside. You are forgetting that she has a very beautiful interior with many saving graces, not least the delicious Olympic room.

There is more to a ship than how she looks on the outside.
Paddy.

Correct! It's interesting how the design of the Millennium has proved to be controversial! Many CruiseTalkers seemed pretty happy with the previous Celebrity ships.

Although Millennium is not my favourite looking ship, she's certainly more interesting than many of the newbuilds! She's very distinctive, after all you could not get her confused with a Carnival, NCL or RCL ship!

The ALBATROS is one of the most liked ships in Germany. Under charter of Phoenix Seereisen she provides either classical cruises or new club-style cruises, depending on the itinerary and holiday seasons.
She is a good middle-class ship which has many friends and repeaters. She is very stable but sometimes has her little problems if the captain tries to manoever her towards the pier.
Cabins are large and well appointed. She has plenty of little lounges which are very charming. Her decks are quite spacious.
She is one of the last real ocean-liners around. Originally she was build as one of four sisterships for Cunard. The others are FAIR PRINCESS, FEDOR SHALJAPIN and LEONID SOBINOV.

Sorry boys but I was only teasing. Her interiors make up for the exterior but just barely. What is a shame is that the furniture of such a fine ocean liner like Olympic ended up in such an hideous ship. Everybody remembers Titanic but Olympic still remains on relative obscurity when in fact Olympic cleared the way for Titanic in terms of exterior/interior design.
If designing a ugly cruise ship was considered a crime then the designer of Millenium would be facing a firing squad...

Speaking of old and new here's a picture I took on May 15th in Lisbon. I guess that you all know the ships involved.
Sorry for the low quality but I was starting to photograph cruise ships then so I was a little "green"... I still am.
Even though both ships building dates are separated by 20 years you can still see that the underlying principle is the same. That is way their design share many similarities.

Regards

Paulo Mestre
