Whatever happened to the passenger lists that used to be ditributed on the great Ocean Liners? (I have one from the Queen Mary - no I'm not on it).

1) Maybe we all became so paranoid that we are scared for the other passengers to know who we are?

2) Maybe as they do not generate any profit the cruise lines decided to drop them?

Comments please!

The last passenger list I remember seeing was when we went on the Nordic Prince to Bermuda. 1985 I think.

I am fortunate to have a tourist class passenger list from a September 1959 crossing of the Queen Elizabeth. It is of remarkable sentimental value to me because it lists both my mother and father as passengers (who were taking separately their first trip to Europe to study as students), although they had not yet met (and did not meet on the ship). The list, I might add, is not a mere memeographed or typed list, but is elegantly printed in booklet format on quality paper. The list includes only the tourist class (the lowest class on the Queen Elizabeth, I believe) and not the first class passengers.

Welcome aboard Boston. What a great piece of memorabilia to have!

Ahhh...those were the days. Even the paper work was a work of art.

I remember that there was a Passenger List distributed on the FRANCONIA,when I,along with my then husband, and 5-year-old twins emigrated from Southampton to Montreal in 1965. We were a bit miffed, actually, due to a mis-spelling of our names but at least we were on it.The list was properly printed, not just typed.

HAL always produces a beautiful Passenger List Book on their World Cruises. I have 2 of them from 1998 & 1999.....thankfully,my name is spelt correctly in both of them!!!!

We had passenger lists in booklet form with HAL through the 70's (maybe early 80's) and then when they stopped doing that they would post a list of passengers near the Front Office on the Rotterdam along with the stocks. Now they only do the passenger lists on long cruises such as the World Cruise or cruises of 35+ days. It amounts to nothing more than saving money.
By the way, NAL who also posts, found a passenger list from a 1966 Rotterdam Transatlantic crossing that he and I (and my mother) both did. He found all our names. Hope one of these days soon we will get to meet him...perhaps next year on the Amsterdam New England/Canada Cruise.

LizB - we started sailing with HAL in '81 and there were no passenger lists then, so it may be that they discontined them at the end of the '70's. I do remember once seeing a printout of a passenger list, tacked to the bulletin board in the Lobby on Main Deck on the Rotterdam V. That is the only one I have ever seen.

Hi all
Seabourn still prints a booklet of passengers on board each sailing. And Royal Viking did also-I have some dating back to early 90s, as well as from our latest Seabourn Sun cruise last month. Great for looking back for forgotten passengers as well as a reference for crew (Captain, etc.) and staff.

I remember pax lists til the mid or late
'70's......none after that with the exception
of long cruises as LizB mentioned. I am
speaking of HAL. Some of the others still
do them, but not usually.

I have an Empress of England passenger list dated October 04,1969 - Montreal to Liverpool - listing First and Tourist Class - I was on board.

Informative little booklet also tells me -
"White Empress Cruises - 1969-70 - Caribbean Cruises -
- Empress of Canada from New York -
13 day Pre Christmas cruise - 5 ports - prices started at $US320.00

"13 day Dec. 20 Christmas Cruise - 5 ports - was priced from $US385.00

"20 day Feb.14 - 8 ports priced from $US595.

It is noted that "all Empresses are fully air-conditioined and equipped with stabilizers."

Will someone volunteer to produce a passenger list for 'Travelpage.com's' Norway cruise?

In this day and age you would think that a list could be easily downloaded from the 'bookings' database.

Lists must have been created manually in the golden age! So much for progress
