Hi everybody...

While in NYC this past weekend (look under Cruise Ships for my post there), I spotted the ZENITH, HORIZON and EDINBURGH CASTLE.

But while we waited out the rain, we watched two films, and old one and a relatively new one, MARNIE and THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, respectively.

Here are my questions:

1. What was the cruise ship Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren sailed on their honeymoon in Hitchcock's MARNIE? I think it was the MONTEREY or MARIPOSA, but I could be wrong. Someone please tell me.

2. In THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, Matt Damon's character set sail on the QUEEN MARY (a really good graphic). The MARY dropped him off at Naples. I did not know the MARY called there, or did she? Or did they take artistic license?

3. Near the end of the film, Damon's character is seen running off with his male companion on a Med cruise. The ship looks like the VIKING BORDEAUX, nee' STELLA MARIS (?).

Now, remember, I need HARDCORE ship watchers for this one...thanks...

Yes it was indeed the Queen Mary in the Talented Mr. Riply. It was my understanding in watching the movie that he just took the ship from New York....across the big pond, and then from there he made his way to Naples.

Did anyone ever see Never say Never..a James Bond movie with Sean Connery? They were in Nassau and you can see the Rotterdam in the background. There was also a Costa Ship which I thought may have been the Federico C.

I caught Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder at the Castro Theater here in SF recently and it has a great shot (albeit too quick) of the QE (or was it the QM?) to establish a character's recent return from England.

Barryboat....
The Nassau shot in the James Bond movie.....
it was the Amerikanis which was chartered
to Costa for a few years. Also I remember
the Flavia in the shot which was also a
Costa ship......I believe she was a former
Cunarder.....the Media or Parthia perhaps.

Thanks NAL, I wondered which ships appeared in that movie....I never could see the whole movie...I'll have to rent it. I was only able to get a glance, so I couldn't make a better determination of which ships were used. Now that I think about it, yes there were three ships visible. I just wanted to try putting this flaming file up to see if this works.

The James Bond movie with the ROTTERDAM cameo was "Never Say Never Again".

Yes,that was the Rotterdam in the
Bond movie. And so was the Amerikanis. The Flavia, my favorite
liner was the Media from Cunard
line. I still miss that lovely liner
as well as the Amerikanis.
