Pictures are great - brought back so many happy memories of all my cruises on this wonderful ship. I was surprised to see where the card room is now situated. I don't know what used to be there. The only thing I can think of is that it was a hallway down to the Hotel Manager's office the last time I was on the ship was in the spring of '93 to Hawaii. What a trip that was! Too bad there aren't any pictures of the cabins as I would have liked to see if they had changed.

Sympatico,
I think the cabin I was in this summer was an original. Complete with towel warmer and all. The Mattresses and Bedspreads were new. I will find the link to the recent pictures Andy posted of the July 14 sailing and you can check all three or four cabin varieties. Do you think those light fixtures in the Ambassador lounges were the real MCCoys? We were not sure about the ones on the walls but they mathed the ones on these pictures.

Great Pictures Barryboat. Thanks. I will send your link to Andy. I dont think he reads here too often.

Justine - those were great pictures Andy posted. Yes, I think those lights in the Ambassador are the original. It was quite a dark room - we loved it for drinks before dinner.
I laughed when I saw the picture of cabin 726. I think that is the cabin we had for a couple of days on our first Panama Canal cruise as we had booked at the last minute and that was the only cabin available. It was down on one of the lower decks and could only be reached by an elevator behind the Queen's Lounge. The first day I got lost trying to find it before dinner. Fortunately for us, a very close friend of ours, who was supposed the Purser on our cruise but had been transferred to the Nieuw Amsterdam, came on board to visit and when he saw our cabin said "you can't stay here". A couple of days later we were moved to a C cat, much larger cabin. 726 was sooooooooo small two of us couldn't be in there at the same time to get dressed. As the old adage goes "it's not what you know, it's who you know". I loved having the towel warmers, especially in Alaska - warmed my snuggies on it every morning.
P.S. Just found our cabin number - it was 725 - same as 726 but on the Starboard side.

It was a pleasure to meet Andy and Chuck on board. They were the perfect new acquaintance on a cruise ship. I was thrilled to see he had time for pictures. I'm a live the moment type who never takes pictures, I'm too busy looking. Was it ever nice to receive his pictures the next week. What a thrill to see pictures on the net after the cruise.

Barryboat,

Great Pictures. Does the Rembrandt sail out of New Orleans? I have been looking for a ship with paddle tennis! Does this ship still have the court? The indoor pool is a plus.

Nancy, No the Rembrandt does not cruise out of New Orleans. I'm not sure if the Rembrandt has paddle tennis, maybe some others on this site can tell you, but I don't recall there being a table tennis table.

NAbbot - I don't know what the indoor pool is like now, but hardly anyone swam in it when I was on the Rotterdam. It was so hot and humid down there and the water looked like it was full of algae. There was a room just off the pool where they did the massages. Talk about a steam room and it was sooooooooo small. There was no AC in that room, just a small fan and when you came out of it after having your massage you just wanted to jump in the pool, but it didn't look too appetizing.
Anyone else ever swim in the indoor pool. By the way, the indoor one was for first class passengers in the OLD days. It would have been great for trans-atlantic crossings in cold weather. That is one of the nice things about the retractable roof above the Lido pool - you can swim in it all year 'round.

Hey, I liked that pool and I swam in it every time I was on Rotterdam. It was just as big as the outdoor pools and never crowded so it was great for laps (...very short laps) - especially in Alaska.

I've got lots of photo's so if you are interested in a particular room just let me know.

Sorry Joe - but the one and only time I was down there it looked awful - mind you this was way back in '83, so obviously they cleaned it up. It was the worst looking green colour - ugh. But, as you said, it was great for Alaska.

I swam in that pool in 1998 as the Rembrandt. There was not much water in there, but I was determined to swim in there. In the morning I would go down to the showers in the men's locker room to take my morning shower, because I liked to sit in the sauna then take a shower in the morning. I had a blast swimming in that pool, especially as the water sloshed from side to side! Too bad so little attention is paid to the maintenance of that pool.

Sympatico,
The pool was cleaned up. Looked very good when I was there in July. On every ship, I get a massage daily, this time I gave up after day one. The tiny massage room was warmer than the steam bath behing it. Honest.
The first thing they ask you when you fill up your form for a massage is whether your are claustrophobic. Well I did not know I was until that day. The massage therapist was excellent though. I cant imagine putting in those long hours in those horrible conditions.

Justine - I can't believe that they are still using that tiny room for massages. Yes you could get claustrophobic in there.
I guess there is no where to move it to. Is the beauty salon still behind the front office on Main Deck?

Sympatico, you caught me. I did not make it to the beauty salon during my cruise. Ha! Ha!
But I believe it's still on Main Deck by the purser's office.

Rembrandt *could* very well be cruising from New Orleans *if* a certain un-named cruise line manages to arrange the financing. They've already looked her over from what I'm told and would love to have her.

In a word....money! I cant confirm this, but there are many that contend that Premier is in dire need of capital at this point.

There and fairly reliable sources that state premier has withheld tips/wages from staff members and used them to pay expenses.

In addition, Premier was just expelled from the ICCL due to "undisclosed" reasons.

Premier is also being investigated by the USCG and I have copies of correspndence written to several states attorney generals offices and the US FMC demanding investiagtion of their finances due to refunds that are long overdue.

Barryboat, I'm having the same (I suppose) problem as Malcolm. I checked there this morning - not from the U.K. The photos do not appear on your pages. I'm using a Netscape version 4.5 browser. Would love to see the pics.

Chalk Dust & Malcolm,

Sorry you can't see the images....actually as of last weekend the people who run the software for my website made a little mistake and accidently deleted all of the images on my website. I'm quite upset about it because it took me three weeks to get my site to look the way it did. My site is a very Image intensive site. They are trying to get the images back online from a backup that they have, but I fear I may have to spend another couple of weeks loading all of the images onto the site again, which would be a pain in the neck. By the way, Malcolm, you must be using Netscape, because..before when you tried to pull up my site it was there, but because of a missing (.html) on many of the images, Netscape couldn't pull it up for some reason. I fixed that, but now all the images are gone. I'm hoping this will get resolved soon. I also have on my site some great pictures of the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
