I have just seen an advert in Shipping Today and Yesterday (UK) advertising a trip from the UK on 26th May, 2001 staying week-long aboard Queen Mary.
Quote:27th May, 2001 is the 65th Anniversary of RMS Queen Mary’sMaiden VoyageWe would like to celebrate this special occasion with you!The ****** - to keep Joe happy - Bureau have teamed up to organise a very special celebratory trip to Long Beach, California departing 26th May, 2001.Amid the splendour of the world’s last remaining 1930’s superliner, there will be special on-board events!!!Unquote:
Have any of you heard anything about special on-board events, or what will the celebration consist off, are any of you going to be on-board during this period???.
This could be a good get together venue for the Travelpage CruiseTalk contributor’s. Maybe a wee bit far for European’s to travel but what an opportunity for anyone in the US to visit one of the great Liners of days gone by.
CheersM.

So how much will the May 2001 trip cost me?
Thank you very much for searching out that information, I really appreciate that greatly, and will be checking the board to see any news.
I think it would be quite a breathtaking moment for me to see Queen Mary, so for you to be able to see her EVERYDAY, must be quite something.
Malcolm:
this advert ran in July’s issue, so as I haven’t telephoned yet to find out details, we may even find that it already is a sell out however I am sure it’s a supply on demand situation and if there were many more interested customers they might do something extra. I will telephone tomorrow to find out more information. They say they are including tours to Mexico/Catalina Island/ and some others so looks like it could be a good deal.
There is also an interesting section about her history with photograps and a section on her preservation. There is no information yet, under the 'Special Events' section yet about the 65th Anniversary.
I am of the opinion that anybody who lives within 'striking distance' of the QM MUST visit her - she is just WONDERFULL!

I received a leaflet for the trip on 26th May, 2001.
It says “Why not join David Ellery, (QM author and Documentary Film Maker) and John M. Spicer (Travel Organiser and QM fan) and step back in time to 27 May, 1936 the day of the maiden voyage.”
Flight is with Virgin Atlantic non stop from Heathrow to Los Angeles. The cabins reserved are all one type (doesn’t mention which type of cabin)Price £859.00 based on double occupancy.
When I telephoned I spoke with a John who did mention that the cabins were Port Side, if you have been on the Queen Mary you will know if this is a good location or not, I personally wouldn’t care which side it was on
It looks like the excursions are optional extras, but there is an extensive 3 hours walking tour of the vessel, and an eearly evening presentation from David Ellery included.
