okay okay, I know we have all joked about it before, but how would you really go about buying a cruise ship? I went to http://www.maritimematters.com/ to see the former Windsor Castle as recommended, and it truly is a wondrful ship with a lot of potential. Eight million. Well???

Paddy.

You would need to put together a VERY convincing business plan, then go out and find investors. Unless you have 8 million and then all you need to do is write a check.

Wow, that was very refreshing to see that ship in such great condition! I think it would certainly make a wonderful cruise ship.

Well, they took her sister and made her into a decent cruise ship, IslandBreeze, albeit with very poor management. She could be a very classy ship...

Well the way it seems to be going you can just buy Premier and have a bunch of classic ships. You probably won't need a business plan either.

Actually, Buying a cruise line like Premier may not be such a bad idea for a bunch of Ship buffs like us to do. We could get a couple hundred of us and all throw in some money for stock in the company and take controlling interest. Then we, the Cruise & Ship buffs, could make Premier into a great cruise line!! So what do you think? Wouldn't that be cool for a bunch of ship buffs like us to run a cruise line the way we see fit?

OK Barryboat, your the CEO! Get the stock offering together. Seriously, do you think it could ever work. I'd just would go absolutly crazy if I could ever get in the ground floor of such a venture. How much money do you think it would take?

And my friend Dambrosi always thought I was crazy for liking Red Paint, wait till she see's me at the helm! LOL

Ship buffs are probably the worst people to run a cruise line!

Would ship buffs have created Carnival, the worlds most successful cruise line? I think not!

We would be 'blowing' all our money renovating the Big 'U, while Carnival continued to steal our customers and make millions of dollars with their floating 'Las Vegas' style newbuilds.

Did Carnival not start by buying old CP ships? Observers then predicted nothing but failure.

Here, Here Justine. You are quite right. You can be a ship buff and still be flexible and open to new ideas. There is no sense in saving the Big U only to end up in failure a few months down the road like American Family Cruises. The Big U will have to wait for the sucess of the game plan to unfold and then........ maybe the Big Red U.

Cunardcoll - QE2 is worth about $600 million, so I doubt it $1000 will buy her.

Plus you will have to wait about 20 years to have any chance in QE2's sale, and then you will have to compete with me
