I'm very interested in the Ex-Soviet Liners. Please help me to find where are they now. Where are the 4 "writers" series sister ships SHEVCHENKO, FRANKO, RUSTAVELY & LERMONTOV. Are the going to sail this summer?
There also were 2 sister ship LEONID SOBINOV & FYODOR SHALYAPIN.
Which ships are remain with BLASCO and with Sovcomflot Russia and will they sail this summer?

Thanks,
Nick

Hello,
Finally you found the specialist for BLASCO and Sovcomflot ships or any other former Soviet ships. I´m very close to the whole fleet and I´m following constantly changes about their ships.
About the five sisterships of the IVAN FRANKO series :
MS IVAN FRANKO is currently laid up in Ilychevsk (I hope I spelled it correct). MS TARAS SHEVCHENKO and MS SHOTA RUSTAVELI are currently cruising under BLASCO management in the Black Sea. Last year they were also sailing the Mediterranea but due to high port taxes they were repositioned to the Black Sea. MS MIKHAIL LERMONTOV unfortunately sunk in 1986 in the South Pacific between the two New Zeeland islands.
MS ALKSANDR PUSHKIN was transfered from Baltic Shipping Co. to Far Eastern Shipping Co. and is now managed by London-based Orient Lines as the MS MARCO POLO (very sucessful vessel, rated with 4 stars.)
BLASCO´s MS ODESSA is arrested in Naples since April 1995 due to open bills of other BLASCO ships.
The BELORUSSIYA series ships:
MS BELORUSSIYA is now sailing as the MS DELPHIN, managed by MTC Marine Trade Consulting and owned by Sea Delphin Shipping Company (BLASCO Ltd.), Malta. It is under full charter to German Delphin Seereisen and operating all around the world.
MS KAZAKHSTAN is renamed MS UKRAINA and still managed by BLASCO. It is chartered to New SeaEscape Cruises for Casino- and Partycruises out of Port Everglades.
MS AZERBAYDZHAN is renamed MS ENCHANTED CAPRI, still owned by BLASCO and chartered to New Commodore Cruise Line, also cruising the Caribbean.
MS GRUZIYA was renamed MS ODESSA SKY, still owned by BLASCO but laied up in Wilhelmshaven / Germany for two years. Now it´s being refurbished and will soon operate as a club ship out of Rotterdam for a Dutch operator.
MS KARELIYA is still under BLASCO management too but arrested in Haifa for open bills, like the MS ODESSA.
Anyway, BLASCO got accepted another credit of 2,7 Mio USD which will make all the arrested ships sailing again soon.
For Sovcomflot are cruising TS MAXIM GORKIY and MS ASTOR. MS CALYPSO was managed by Sovcomflot under bare-boat charter but they ceased operations due to a failed sub-charter with another tour-operator.
TS MAXIM GORKIY is owned by Belata Shipping (which is a sister company of Sovcomflot). Its cruise line is Maxim Gorkiy Ltd. (Lothian Shipping Company, a sister company of Unicom Shipmanagement which again is a joint venture between Sovcomflot and Acomarit). The operator is Phoenix Seereisen (under full charter) and it´s cruising all around the world.
MS ASTOR is simular, only the owner is Poetto Shipping Co. (Sovcomflot), the cruise line is Astor Shipping Co. and the operator is Transocean Tours (also under full charter). MS ASTOR is cruising around the world too.
So far a little overview about a part of the huge fleet. Should you need more details, please contact me again.

I forgot:
rather sad news about TS FEDOR SHALJAPIN and TS LEONID SOBINOV. They were scrapped after being retired last year.

Patrick - are you sure Fedor Shalyapin and Leonid Sobinov have been scrapped? Last I heard, about a year ago, they were both laid up and the scrap yard was the obvious destination - but I didn't know they had actually gone yet??
