Name the seven cruise ships/liners in the photograph below. The picture was taken in New York City in the early 1960's. Patrick, I know you have the answer so you can't answer right away...

From bottom to top it's the Constitution, America, United States, Bremen, (Aircraft Carrier) Queen Mary, Can't see this ship well enough (but possibly the Caronia), Argentina. Whew...that was a tough one.

I think the seventh ship (Cunarder) is one of the Saxonia class. Probably the Sylvania
which made many voyages into NYC.

Well! Not easy to find the name of the cunarder unless if you own that picture.
If the picture was taken before 1962, she could be SAXONIA, IVERNIA, CARINTHIA or SYLVANIA.
If the picture was taken after 1963, she could be CARINTHIA or SYLVANIA because SAXONIA was painted bright green after her refit after April 8 1963 (line Rotterdam-Montreal as CARMANIA) and IVERNIA was painted bright green too after her refit after July 1963 (same line as FRANCONIA).
All four ships were painted white after 1967 for cruising.
Bye!

Hi...the Cunarder at the top is the Mauretania - two funnels.....peter

Got to apologize..there's no 2nd funnel, the spacing is wrong, and the Maure's were flat topped, this one is rounded (were'nt they called a Thorneycroft Cowl ?) which makes it one of the four "Canadian" ships.

Joe....

I agree with Barryboat except for the Caronia. That's one of the Sylvania class
vessel. The top one could be either
Argentina or Brasil.

Where are these piers located. Are they around 40th st where the aircraft carrier museum is moored? Which by the way would be a great place for the United States to be displayed.

For the record, here's the official answer:

The ships are from top to bottom: Moore McMoore McCormack's (1) Argentina, Cunard Line's (2) Ivernia and (3) Queen Mary, North German Lloyd's (4)Bremen, United States' Line (5) United States and (6) America, and American Export's (7) Constitution
