What does this mean for Thomson Cruises? Will it go down the same route that their airline businesses will go - that fleets and branding will be merged?
If they lose the Thomson name, then the ships' names must change, plus TUI Cruises already exists as a name.
In the same time frame, Mein Shiff 1 & 2 are scheduled to transfer from TUI Cruises into Thomson - I wonder if this will signal a livery change which is closer to that of the German brand. Will we also see the Spirit / Celebration leave the fleet?
What are you thoughts on what will happen in the brand rationalisation?
Tui is very uninspiring as a brand name however. I can't imagine people telling their friends with pride that they are sailing on a 'Tui ship'. I can imagine the blank looks and the explanations required. I think it may be a branding mistake. Thomson or even Britannia (now retired from their airline with a long history) would be a stronger brand to build recognition around. Best of all would be for a new brand to be created.
I sailed on Thomson Spirit earlier this year. The ship was great, superb decks, tiny pools, poor food, most crew were fine, endless Musak at levels you could not get away from anywhere. I did not take part in whatever entertainment there was in the Show Lounge. I would sail the ship again but better without the rest But I am not a Thomson follower so perhaps have the opposite opinion. {the food was well below P&O - not even any nice desserts in the lido at lunch - the best food came from the Lido Deck grill where there was a special each night but one had to queue and wait ages for it}
I am sure with the more up to date ships Thomson will do well. They have interesting itineraries compared to others. What will happen to SPIRIT & CELEBRATION?
Pam
They said that the transition for all businesses to the TUI brand would take around 3 years, with the UK being last due to the size and following of Thomson - so it looks like it is going.
