This is no big surprise because they have been getting panned by passengers for lots of problems including long lines and poor service. Also there were some major tech problems with the reservation system.

For whatever reason they seem not to have been able to make the conversion to open dining nearly as smoothly as NCL did. (As an aside someone I know just came back from the Norwegian Breakaway which is also a giant ship and reported no lines, waits, etc. on the free dining venues and smooth operations for all the reservation only venues.)

Last month Royal Caribbean announced they were dropping the cover charge on one of the restaurants.

I would expect more changes, tweaks, etc. to still be coming before this works smoothly. It is a shame because it has tarnished the image of an imaginative new ship.

NCL have had a couple of decades to perfect 'freestyle'. OK it's not perfect but it generally works pretty well for most passengers.

RCI have only had a few months of Dynamic Dining.

NCL implemented 'Freestyle Dining' within a bit more than a year if I remember right - that is already more than a decade but hardly 'a couple of decades' ago.

Just checked Ernst.

NCL say: "In May 2000, Norwegian Cruise Line ushered in a new era of cruising when it introduced its innovative Freestyle Cruising aboard Norwegian Sky".

So I was five years out. NCL have operated 'a version of Freestyle' for 1.5 decades.

That's still a lot of experience.

IMHO RCL never got off to a good start with Freestyle dining. They seem to be of a reservation type of dining instead.
Princess seems to have it right ,just walk right up and be seated. they will even check other venues in the event the one you chose was full.Never had a problem with them.
I knew it would not work with RCL as soon as they announced it.
