Announced today, they will be the largest ships ever built by the Italian yard. A very innovative design, they appear to be based on the concept design the shipyard unveiled last year.

Here is the "Mille" concept model from last year which the new MSC design appears to be based. Notice the key similarities:
Key features:
-Mid-ship engines & funnel
-Narrow fore/aft superstructure
-Low, wrap-around promenade
-Pool on lower aft deck, dome between funnel & mast
-Lifeboats below promenade
-Identical forward mast designs

What does this mean for the STX LOI? Is it in it's stead or in addition?
It's a little ungainly, but I like the design. It's different and won't be mistaken for the cookie cutter Royal Princess, Breakaway, TUI, etc classes. I can't help but feel Carnival missed an opportunity to snap this design up as a replacement for the Destiny and Dream classes.

So they will be world's third biggest ships behind the Oasis and Quantum classes (based on gross tonnage).

Based on passenger capacity MSC are set to become the number three cruise line.

So 'Seaside' will have an RCI style 'Royal Prom' on the inside and an NCL style 'Waterfront' on the outside.

Are you not mixing up the two orders? When announcing the STX order for the Vista class they talked about the promenade. I think they also mentioned that there would be multiple dining options.

On reflection Matt, YES I am!

There are too many MSC newbuilds at once for my mind to cope with!

You are right, MSC said the vista/STX order will have a 'Royal Prom' type feature and Seaside/Fincantieri a 'waterfront'.

What confused me, was that Seaside does look like she has a split superstructure at the stern with maybe a panoramic window at the end of a Royal Prom like feature - or maybe it's just an elevator?
