There's a new cruise line coming out in 2015 called Float Cruises. The web address is www.floatcruises.com Looks like this new cruise line has its offices in Canada, and they seem to have some interesting ideas. Any thoughts?

Ok, I will bite but this is pretty much the only information on their web site:

They want to reach a unique demographic ages 25-46.
They intend to create an "edgy" cruise line
They want to have a similar business model of COSCO where the crew have profit sharing.
They want to have a carefree environment onboard with a no tipping policy. Dress is casual. I think they'd like to build a new ship, but that may be cost-prohibitive, so they may buy, lease or charter a vessel to get started.

None of that comes over on the website - which anyone could have produced saying nothing. They show pictures of a photoshopped HAL Vista sans lifeboats on Facebook and a Grand Class on Twitter which does not make anything about them look serious. A new vessel could not be built by 2015, it would have to be well underway by now and they are not going to get a Vista or Grand charter.

The Vista and Grand-class images shouldn't be used. A new-build is not practical for 2015, obviously. I think eventually they would like to build their own ship, but for now, an existing vessel will be used. Possibly the Island Escape or the old Crown Jewel / Gemini which is currently laid-up in Asia. It's difficult to come up with cruise line ideas that haven't already been attempted or are already being implemented, but we'll just have to see if they are able to stir up enough capital, to make it work.

It sounds a bit like the Easycruise experiment - I don't know in what circumstances this ended

Haven't we seen, on this board, recently, a new cruise project for retirement living aboard what if memory serves, the Gemini? The website was up and running and someone here put it up, I haven't gone to look for it, just now.

We haven't heard, here in Montreal, any new cruise line starting up. And it seems a bit premature to use stock photos of existing ships for a line that hasn't even gotten off the ground yet.

There was that small ship venture doing coastal Canada and U.S. trips on a small ship I saw in print not long ago.

These little "tease" websites are a dime a dozen.

I guess we'll see where this all goes.
