Next year two ships will be gone from the Turkish markets. ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT is as we all know now sailing as the Voyager and OCEAN MAJESTY will be sailing next year for German Hansa Touristik.

During 2012 Turkish EtsTur sailed with Aegean Paradise and managed to carry 22 000 passangers. Next year (2013) the company is planning to grow its cruise segment with 40 %. This week EtsTur announced that they are going to continue to charter the AEGEAN PARADISE during 2.6.-6.10.2013. AEGEAN PARADISE will be doing 3/4-night cruises to the Greek islands from Izmir.

Apart from AEGEAN PARADISE EtsTur is also going to charter additional ship for the summer season. During 29.7.2013-1.9.2013 EtsTur will be sailing out from Istanbul with 6/7 night cruises to the Greek islands. For this purpose Voyages to Antiquity will charter its AEGEAN ODYSSEY for one month to be used for the Turkish markets.

Some rumours have been telling that VENUS would be sold to Turkish investors and would also be sailing from Turkey next year. Bamtur had some difficulties this year and it might be they are not coming back to the cruise markets next year. ApexTour instead might very well be potential charterer of the VENUS next year.

It was reported [at the beginning of Dec] on one site that VENUS was sold at auction for $2.8m to "Turkish buyers reportedly for scrap" - however this does not seem to have made the usual ship breaking reports. Perhaps she has been purchased by the investors instead? or maybe not even sold at all.

ApexTour were apparently doing very well with Ocean Majesty.

Apex Tours has announced its plans for season 2013 and it will indeed be VENUS that is going to be used for their cruises. The ship will be renamed AEGEAN PEARL and will be sailing from Izmir. First cruise will depart Izmir on the 1st of May and will be a 15-day cruise round the western Mediterranean. The same cruise will be repeated on the 17th of May. 1st of June the ship will do 8-day cruise to the Eastern Mediterranean. 10th and 19th of June 8 day cruises from Istanbul to the Black Sea.

The ship will sail under the Cruise Holidays brand name. Summer cruises for June and July have not yet been announced.

VENUS is on the beach - so what has happened here? Apex Tour had a whole season of cruises planned with her. Their website now only shows the usual MSC/Costa/Louis Cruises.

Perhaps they will have one of the Majestic International Cruises ships on charter.

Both the Ocean Countess and Ocean Majesty appear to be available.

So what has happened to Apex Tour? I came across this report today which seems to indicate [Google translation a bit awry] that they have gone belly-up leaving holiday makers stranded?

Hi Pam,

yes, big troubles there. Apex signed a contract to promote a series of short-cruises on the Turkish market with the OCEAN LIFE and was not able to fill up and pay for anything so the vessel still remains in Greece for the moment.
Another Ukrainian partner had hundreds of people stranded which were supposed to fly to Turkey for their holidays and everything was cancelled due to lack of payments. If people get their money back is still a very big open question...

Having had her fuels etc removed over the last few weeks, OCEAN LIFE left under tow for Aliaga this morning
