The Phillipino President announced yesterday that all Phillipino nationals working on board ships are banned from sialing on any ship that is going to the Gulf, Yemen, coastof Somalia areas.

Obviously if enforcable this will have a huge impact on shipping in the area - especially cruise ships.

How they expect to enforce it however is another question.

If this will be enforced, this will be a nightmare for many cruise lines (and crew members) as it will impact virtually almost all ships doing a world cruise and all the vessels which are now based in Dubaï for the Winter season (Costa, RCCL...). And that's just for cruise ships, imagine the mess with cargo vessels !

It only applies to those that do not follow the protected corridor. If ships follow the corridor, there is no exclusion.

OK so a tanker is going along, then the Captain decides he is not going to follow the "route" - what does the Phillipino President do ?

For that matter does the Phillipino crew on board even know they are supposed ot abandon ship ?
