The Fred Olsen Cruise ship mv ' Braemar ' sailed from Southampton on Sunday to the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Germany to have a midships section added.
Her tonnage will be increased from 19,089 grt to about 23,000grt.
Passenger numbers will be increased by about 250 to 977 passengers.
She is expected to make her next cruise on the 5th July 2008

Fred Olsen did cancel the three day cruise for Braemer that was due to depart on the 2nd July.
I had a friend on board her for the Atlantic crossing from Jamaica to Southampton and they had people from the shipyard join her in Maderia and also as soon as she berthed in Southampton on the 10th May.
Some stripping out had started in Southampton before passengers disembarked !
More in the gallery. Work was well underway by midday with a container being offloaded then. She sailed on Sun morning for Hamburg.
Neil, the post-stretch inaugural is on 13th July, not 5th. That changed some time ago now; no chances being taken.

Many thanks for the update on the first sailing for the Braemar after she is stretched.
This will mean that both her 3 day and 8 day cruises, which were advertised in the Fred Olsen Cruises Worldwide 2008/9 brochure, have now been cancelled.
I take it they do not want a repeat of having to cancel cruises as happened with the Balmoral.
Some great pictures of her at Southampton - Many thanks.
Lets hope we see some pictures of her at the ship-yard being stretched.
I have a Japanese shipping book, published by my friends Michio Yamada and Yoshi Ikeda, that contains a B/W picture of Royal Viking Star cut and still in two sections when she was lengthened in 1981.
I think she was the first of the old Royal Viking Cruises fleet to be lengthened.
She is now the Fred Olsens cruise ship Black Watch.
Regards,
quote: Its a pity they will convert the observation deck above the bridge into a gym.
And given the typical age of a Fred Olsen passenger, that's going to be as much use as a ... well, you-know-what.
The revised deck plans for Braemar, issued by Fred Olsen Cruises and valid from the 5th July, show a fitness centre on Atlantic Deck next to the Health & Beauty Salon which would appear to be in the new midships section of the ship.
The room above the bridge remains as the Observatory !
She also will have added a Morning Light Pub and an internet room on Lounge Deck.
A passenger laundrette is also being provided midships on Marina Deck with the original ironing room on that deck being converted into a cabin.

SNAP !!
We have the same plans.
Neil ( Bob)
You guys are correct about the observatory. I had mistaken the deck plans under the BRAEMAR page being the stretched ones.
Not sure what I was thinking at the moment .

Mind Balmorals is not much better but they are very low, for instance Oriana is 35.3, Aurora 35.
