Aker Yards said it has not revised the delivery date for Royal Caribbean International’s Genesis newbuild. At the same time, the cruise operator stated it does not currently expect to be affected by delays and cost increases at the Turku shipyard.
Aker cut its earnings forecast in July, August and December, citing delays in ferry production in Finland due to high demand and rising costs for components. Earlier this month the builder warned that profits may be lower than expected and postponed announcing its fourth quarter results from Feb. 18 to March 4.
In a filing today, Royal Caribbean said it has discussed the impact of the shipyard’s situation on its vessels under contract and does not currently expect a material impact on results or operations.
However, Royal Caribbean cautioned that ‘in the event that the financial situation of Aker Yards Oy deteriorates further, it could have a material impact on the delivery and costs associated with our Project Genesis class ships and our future results of operations.’
Asked about Finnish media reports of a possible Genesis delay, an Aker spokeswoman told Seatrade Insider the builder has not stated any change in the delivery from the initial date of fall 2009, as noted in the first press release announcing the contract.

Why any delays? As for cost increases, it´s a quite different matter.
