A new Spanish cruise company is just been born. Former Pullmantur CEO as decided to create Quail Cruises using the former Pacific.

No details for the moment. Western Med, all inclusive and Spanish orientation. So a kind of new Pullmantur version.

How popular is cruising in Spain? Obviously Pullmantur are turning into one of the better-known names in Europe.

So I guess there is some story behind the whys and wherefores then? Quail is a curious name, does it have the same meaning is Spanish as English?

It´s getting very popular, amanzingly popular, with annual growth of amost 40%. And yes there´s something behind. Quail doesn´t mean anything in Spanis but I assume that since it´s in English many cruisers will find it sofisticated.

They are former Pullmantur people who have quit the company (or fired) when new american staff were engaged and come from RCI Miami. They seemed to be in total disagreement with the new bosses and has decided to make this little revenge.

The full program will be presented to the media in FITUR the Spanish biggest world tourist fair in Madrid in 10 days, and then I will be able to offer a bit more information.

Interesting choice of name--it wouldn't even be pronounced the same by a Spanish speaker as by an English speaker, and the word doesn't mean anything in Spanish. "Cordoniz" is the Spanish word for quail.

Strange they are hoping to use Pacific, she is currently under charter from Pullmantur to CVC in Brazil, perhaps CVC are going to get their ship or perhaps charter another from Pullmantur ?

I hope they give pacific a really good make over a la Discovery, she needs and deserves it.

We are still eager to know who is behind in terms of investiment. Two former executives, but not rich enough to create a tour operator. So CVC could be the owner of this Quail Cruises, and even Globalia, which had closed down his own branch.

YUK.

They are ruining my ship, horrid hull art crap, the lobby is dreadful, black mdf panels over the tiles and the sculpture that has hung there for 35 years is also painted black with the addition of hideous lamps. Bedspreads from Butlins. The wonderful cinema is now going to be an extension of the casino and the starlight lounge a disco ! Hell I wish I could afford to buy her she would be ideal for SA. Disgusted. Sell her to me or at least V of Discovery. She is obviously not safe in your hands. Tasteless 2 star standard.

No doubt the new operators of the ship think that she needed a face lift from the decor of the 1970's.

I was more pleased to see that she has remained in service like the original Sun Princess, ex Spirit of London, which is now named New Flamenco, rather than join others on the beach at Alang.

Has anyone heard where New Flamenco is in New Caledonia and what use is being made of her as she is not listed in tourist information for the islands.

No doubt she needed a facelift, ther ehave been several reports that Pullmantur had not spent on her, but work with what you have, her decor is quite understated and relatively elegant, the new additions clash completely. I to am happy she is not in Alang yet, that will come (as it does to all ships) but I hate to see her abused by tasteless messing around. Discovery has never looked better, shame one of the twins is so burdened.

NEW FLAMENCO has been chartered by Goro Nickel S.A.S. to accommodate its workers at the port of Prony, New Caledonia. A massive project to get a production facility for nickel and cobalt was started in 2005 and is due to begin production this year. The extra workers are required until the complex starts operations.
