Perhaps this is old news but I've just received a notification that the QE2 is making her final transatlantic crossing on October 16, 2008 - apparently in tandem with the QM2. Having cruised on this icon only twice in 1981 and 1985 I was wondering if anyone has had the experience of sailing on a "final" voyage - (I realize she is doing a "final-final" cruise to Dubai thereafter but for all intents and purposes this October 16th voyage will be her last). I recall the Canberra coming into Vancouver on her "final" cruise and from all reports the onboard antics of both passengers and crew were appalling, i.e. anything that wansn't nailed down was being stolen - and even some things that were nailed down were taken too!

Does anyone have any insight on what Cunard may do to make this final transatlantic crossing something to be a part of without having to worry about declining interest on behalf of the crew making it a meorable voyage?

We are booked on one of her last cruises and I have a list of things I am taking. I have a hatbox for the bust of QEII in the Queens Room and a plumbers wrench to remove our bathroom sink.

I'm on the final Autumn Getaway (with QM2 for the last time in together) so I hope you'll leave something for me to take as a souvenir. Unless I take an enormous steamer trunk to put the ship in.

That's the way to do it!

Not big on the QE2 and have not sailed the Mary but would love to. Greatly doubt the budget can be stretched that far

Enjoy!

Friends sailed the final Rotterdam V cruise - many special things were planned. Hardly anyone left the ship without some 'trinkets'.
No mention of declining interest or service by the crew! - some were sad. Others looking forward to assignments on the V1.

Enjoy!

Yes, we booked, very unexpectedly, but, we were on QM-2 and had ready access to online booking by the cruise consultants. Our appointment was 10 minutes after the opening bell, and, at that time, only one of our four selected cabins was available.

To annnthony - Lucky Dog! I tried to book after my posting on July 2nd for a Q3 thru all the Princess grades and was given a waitlist number of 106 (one hundred and six). I read in the paper this morning that the two final transatlantic crossings sold out in 36 minutes after they were announced.

Any scalpers out there?

Just hang in there as availability does keep popping up. The transats were available online for much longer than that; it was the Dubai trip which went immediately. It appears some people booked themselves on more than one of these final voyages while they made their minds up. I know of one person in the US who had a cabin held on each of the final crossings and the voyage to Dubai all at the same time. Of course only one was taken in the end & the other 2 released. You may find the 106 has reduced somewhat.

I am also on the Autumn Getaway with the family, so I hope those on the transats do not 'lift' everything they can. Cunard need to purchase a ton of superglue I think!

Pam
