I am doing some research and I need your opinions.

For a cruise choice, would a two-day cruise to nowhere during a normal week be more desirable than a typical four-day weekday Baja Mexico cruise that visits such ports as Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico here on the U.S. West coast?

And, what are your thoughts if a cruise line ever offered a three day weekend cruise followed by (2) two night cruises as a regular service rather than the standard three-day/ four-day cruise schedule?

Just curious?

Thank you for your help.

A two-day cruise to 'nowhere' needs to be on a big ship w/lots of facilities as the ship is the main attraction. A 3-4 days Mexico cruise from L.A. is popular as a long weekend party cruise. Since Ensenada, Mexico won't win any beauty awards (it is getting better though) and a stopover in San Diego is an attractive diversion. Catalina Island really does not offer that much but does have some pretty natural scenery and crystal clear water. My 1st a 3-day Mexico cruise was on Princess back in the late 80s on the old Dawn Princess. It was an unscheduled cruise do to the fact the ship came out of drydock early and travel agents called their past cruise clients to sell it. The ports were Ensenada and San Diego w/an early return to San Pedro and it was the best short cruise I have been on.

Every 2-day cruise I have ever taken was too short, too rushed, and too expensive for the bother, although the chance to experience the ship was enough to intice me.

I've taken the 4-night Baja cruise and it was more fun and more memorable than almost any of the 2-nighters I've ever taken. Catalina was cutesy and charming, and Ensanada offered enough tours to get you away from town. Try the Blow Hole & Winery Tour.

Look here for options at either port of call...

I have never been to any of the stops other then San Diego but I have heard that the cruises in the area are very nice. Though I have never been to Catalina Island I have seen pictures and heard stuff about it and it sound really really nice there. The Channel Islands are increadibly beautiful. Are you going on Monarch of the Seas? Have a great time.

No, but I have been on the Monarch of the Seas before and had a great time.

I was just wondering if people thought a 2-day "cruise to nowhere" in the middle of the week is more desirable than the typical a 4-day cruise that is destination driven and that visits certain ports as part of the itinerary.

There must be enough onboard sales revenue to support the operating cost for a 2D1N cruises.

In HK, it is not a problem because the casion can support it

Personally I do not like very short cruises. I know they are cheaper, but in my opinion two days is far to short to find your sea legs; after all the first night is followed by the last night! You still have all the packing and travel aggravation.

Three nights is my minimum, but that's too short too. I'd rather save up until I could afford seven nights.
