Is it just me or is very annoying when a company uses photos/footage of one ship to advertise a different one? im sure many companies do it, but its P&O Aus who are consistantly doing it and it really bugs me!

now i understand if its a clone or if they use computer generated images for ships that are yet to enter service... but why oh why dont they show actual photos/footage if they have it available to them?

take for example this website i recently stumbled upon. Its designed for local travel agents. Click Here

- in their video introduction they show footage of caribbean princess (with movies under the stars) and label it as 'sapphire princes' and;
- in their wallpapers section they show a picture of the star princess and label it as 'sapphire princess'

The thing that gets me is sapphire & diamond have visited australia/nz before, therefore why dont they use actual images to promote its return this year?

Now im sure all their brochures/advertising have a fine print saying that images are for illustration purposes only... but I would hate to see someone book a cruise only to be mislead by what they have seen in an advertment.

In summary i think its very unprofessional and slack on behalf of the advertising/marketing teams. Any thoughts? comments? or is it just me?

This has been discussed in other threads--the basic fact is that many people in marketing/advertising departments of cruise lines don't know any more about the ships than the general public. Furthermore, they feel that it doesn't really matter to most people which specific ship is shown, and you know what? They're right!

Years ago when I worked inside a major cruise line, I used to constantly complain to Marketing about wrong ships being used in brochures and adverts, but no one seemed to care and certainly no one else seemed to notice!

I do agree that the practice is rather sloppy. A cruise line or specialist Travel Agent should know better. If they can’t get details like ship names right will they get your cruise booking right?

However, cruise lines are increasingly trying to sell you an ‘experience’ not a particular ship. After all so many ships within their fleets are probably similar. Ships may even be similar between fleets, as previously discussed.

By the way, I hate the term 'cruise-liner' and I hate the term 'super-liner' even more! The suffix 'liner' is meaningless in the case of nearly all modern ships.

But has not the term 'cruiseliner' been used for decades?? I think it was used back in the early 1960s for HALs Rotterdam V when advertising her first World cruises. I also remember years ago that HAL did (or tried to) copyright the term 'Oceanliner' for their ships. Adverisers and TV shows are very sloppy when it comes to modes of transport. I love when a NEW TV show has a pic of say a B727 taking off and the story line is on a flight to Europe as an example. The 727 could get about 2/3rds of the way there before running out of fuel. Also most commercial airlines retired that plane years ago. I guess and some will disagree but the only time a cruise ship can be referred to as a 'liner' is when that ship in doing a 'line voyage'-correct?? Many cruise ships will do a positioning crossing between continents w/passengers boarding at point A and disembarking at point B. Is that a liner type of service??

Besides the Marketing people, the ones that answer the phones for the frequent cruiser clubs are not informed at all about their ships, services, or what is going on within their own company, etc.

If you want to know something or have a question there is NO better place to ask than Cruise Talk!!!
Trust Me!!!!

Crystal now promoting family reunion cruises
The rise of multi-generational travel has led Crystal Cruises to add a new web site: "Family Reunion Cruises."

"A family reunion aboard a cruise offers the opportunity of being together yet apart," said Nitsa Lewis, Crystal's vice president of marketing, saying the cruise line has long been known for both its amenities for adults and sophisticated learning programs and entertainment for children.

"What some people don't know is that our attention to detail extends to an exceptional Junior Activities Program on summer Mediterranean and European cruises, as well as to other destinations, offering compelling onboard programming for children," she said.

The Web site includes:
Junior Activities Directors (on select sailings, such as summer and holidays) to plan and supervise such "insider" activities as cookie baking in the galley, bridge visits with the Captain and interactive backstage costume events.
Dedicated children's playrooms with games and craft areas, and even Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation kiosks.
Multiple dining options with assigned group seating for dinners.
Inspired menus appealing to a variety of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, sugar- and gluten-free, and low carbohydrate.
Broadway-style shows for the whole family.
Group portrait photography opportunities.
Large families can earn free staterooms (limited availability).
A family of connoisseurs can reserve the Crystal Cruises Vintage Room for exclusive, intimate wine-makers dinners.

There was a full page advert in yesterday's Daily Mail for Alaska cruises on Golden Princess. Yet the picture was Coral or Island.

I can beat you all........

A national chain of estate agents is advertising in South Africa that if you buy r sell a house through them you get a free cruise - nice idea and the picture is of one of the Sun Class ships, however the trip was supposed to have been on the Monterey ! Now she is at Alang I assume it is now on the Melody, better but hardly Princess. Then you have the travel agent here advertising a cruise showing in the ad a glamourous sleek luxury private (Bill Gates type) yacht and you 've guessed it - you will be travelling on the Monterey. The another agent selling Artemis and gving out deck plans of a Grand Class Princess ship.
