Earlier today I was on Celebrity's website when they issued a press release about a massive crash between the Century and a Ferry. It was pulled and this link explains what happened. Wish I was able to show the original.
Link to updated release

Yes, tt was not 'real'.

How incompetent of Celebrity to put a fake news item (a drill) on their web site by mistake!

Celebrity Cruises Statement Regarding Crisis Drill Press Releases

Miami - (October 06, 2006 ) - Several times a year, Celebrity Cruises conducts internal crisis drills that often involve far-reaching and unusual events. These drills are comprehensive and mandatory for all key staff. They are designed to further strengthen the company's ability to deal with virtually any eventuality. One of these fictitious drills was conducted July 7, and, as part of that drill, mock press releases were produced for internal use only. Unfortunately, due to an IT glitch yesterday afternoon, three mock press releases were accidentally placed on the Celebrity website. When the glitch was discovered, the mock releases were immediately pulled from the site. Celebrity Cruises apologizes if this error caused any concerns for anyone.

I saw the original webpage - there was link to it for a time in a threadon cruisecritic, and indeed it was even accessible straight from the Press Room portal on Celebrity's site.

It was clearly 7 July 2007, and appeared to be a press statement confirming a collision between Century and a Norwegian ferry, of the coast of Norway. The 'press statement' continued to say that Celebrity would be holding a press conference at something o'clock, and that further details would be presented then.

What Celebrity are now saying is as follows:-

The first surmise on cruisecritic was that perhaps the Celebrity site had been hit by hackers, but the present explanation makes much more sense. I work in IT and on occasion have to go onto sites where I have to deploy releases of my company's software, and there have been occasions when I've come close to putting a new test release onto the live server instead of the test server.

Isn't this a test of "damage control" ?

So it's that easy? Interesing.

Never the less, it does not look good on them, does it. Freinds and relatives of passengers may have seen the fake-press release and been very worried.
