I subscribe to the mag and like it very much. Of course I only have to pay $39.00 per year over here. They feature a new ship, a cruise, and a cruise destination every month. There are also interesting letters from cruisers. I enjoy it.

October 2006 Issue:

I bought the latest issue with the Zaandam - Ship of the Month. I don't have a subscription because my favorite magazine shop here in Montreal carries it - and not only that they have lowered the price of the magazine as well with special print offers at $4.99 USD and $6.99 CAD for the issue.

It is helpful - for the articles but also, the letters and ship reviews. But for the most part, this website is where I get most of my information for our vacations.

I have been a subcriber to Cruise Travel well before being a cruise talker. News in the magazine may seem old as you will probaly hear about it here however the ship reviews and destination reviews are really nice. It's worth the low subcription price.

I have subscribed to Cruise Travel since December, 1980, when it had a smaller size format. It's intended for the general public, and the news items are quite dated unless you're not on-line or really into ships like many of us.

But the features on new ships, as well as classic ships over the years, make it worthwhile. There is always great, updated information on worldwide ports of call. The price here in the US makes it much more affordable than for those overseas; for HKCruises, if you don't have easy access to printed cruise info, this might be worth the cost to you.

Like Rich I've been getting it for what seems like forever. While it's not the speediest way of getting industry news, it's pretty down to earth and not filled with too much 'fluff'. To be perfectly honest, I enjoy the photos more than anything.

On the other hand, I absolutely hate Porthole magazine,....almost all fluff and, IMO, too snooty.

I did subscribe to it and still have the original magazines, I loved the ones that featured the NORWAY the best. Excellent shots of her on the covers.

PORTHOLE magazine use to be a very good upscale version of Cruise Travel, but this was many years ago (I still look at it when browsing the magazine stands at Books-a-Million). Now it is filled with +60% advertisements and near useless articles.

What a shame.

I have subscribed to CT for about twenty years. Before the internet it was a good source of info. It is much better than Porthole. Porthole started out as a good magazine when Douglas Ward was invovled. Now Bill Panoff has made it a joke publication IMHO.

I used to buy this magazine for YEARS (ever since it was the small sized format...and then I discovered the ORIGINAL Porthole which seemed more geared toward those of use in the industry. As a result I bought both for a number of years.

Now I buy neither as I get much more information online and from colleagues. Frankly I think Cruise Travel is always outdated (as to be expected w/ a magazine) and not terribly well done compared to Porthole. Unfortunately, Porthole has become much more advert oriented and while glossy and pretty is not much better (in terms of content) than Cruise Talk.

I have not bought either for a couple of years (although I do glance at them at the news stand).

I have been subscribing to it for two years, and like it quite a bit. While I agree that it can be a bit dated at times, its style is much more down-to-earth and realistic than, say, the fluff that is Porthole. I used to subscribe to that as well, but the nonsense and filler that makes up most of Porthole got to be too much to tolerate. It seems like no cruise can go wrong, and no line can do anything wrong in Porthole. It's just not realistic.

Regarding Cunard Fan's question about Shipuilder Mag., I think Northrup Grumman has a magazine by the same name but, it's not like the one you're asking about.
