Vision Quest

This, the world’s newest cruise line, will initially consist of three vessels each of which is scheduled to operate from the Eastern United States offering four and five night itineraries.  The first vessel is currently scheduled to begin service in November of 2007.

Vision Quest will be the world’s foremost provider of an all–inclusive business/meeting service at sea, covering the whole specter of corporate events.  She is a specialized, multi-purpose cruise vessel for conference, seminar, business/meeting, exhibition and incentive purposes. Vision Quest will leave a world-class quality impression both in design, choice of materials, fine dining and all services.  In addition to providing the same facilities, services and features of specialized hotel’s and resort’s, Vision Quest will also provide all the extra services, comfort, entertainment and excitement of a modern luxury cruise ship; thus combining the most successful concept of a land based corporate meeting with a modern, luxury level cruise.  Due to her astonishing speed and unique design, Vision Quest will be able to carry out itineraries and repositioning legs that most other cruise ships are unable to accomplish.

The ship has a standard capacity of 1206 passengers in 603 all-suite, ocean view staterooms with balconies and are equipped with in-room direct Internet access. She will have a single cabin capacity of more than 800 and extra bed capacity of 250. Vision Quest will also have a simultaneous dining capacity of 1300 in addition to four specialty restaurants.  Unique to Vision Quest is a 1300 seat Theatre/Conference Hall and Conference Center with meeting facilities to accommodate up to 600 people; several smaller meeting rooms and an Exhibition capacity of 35,000 square feet.  The vessel will also provide a Casino, and a Ballroom area for dancing. On her upper and sun deck levels are an Asian Spa, pool and Gym.  The main level includes a Mediterranean Shopping Village along with distinctive lounges and bars. Exclusive to Vision Quest is cellular access throughout the ship.

This is an interesting concept that I think we've already touched base on. It should take off, the market exists, but I don't think anything has been confirmed yet as per construction of the vessels. If I'm correct, they were going to be built by Aker Finnyards (Aker Yards).

The disadvantage of a ship is that it is more difficult to come and go - on a lot of conference participants do not attend the whole conference but come late or depart early. There are certainly events where most participants attend to whole event - but I am not so sure whether this is enough to fill such a ship.

We've discussed this before here on CT. A cruise company that would specialise in MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions and events industry) would certainly try to accommodate its guests the best way possible, even those wanting to come and go as they please (by tender or helicopter), but their main area of interest would be in those events where a company would charter the whole ship for several days or more. Check out: Landry & King.

It's not going to happen (as already been said), but what's wrong with the bow and forward superstructure? She's not going to do Transatlantics. As long as she floats and is stable, and she has good seakeeping qualities why not go for a different look and design!
