P&O Cruises: new '07 brochure, DVD and trio of world voyages
June 1, 2006

P&O Cruises is including a half-hour DVD introducing the brand, its five ships and some of the destinations visited, with its 2007 brochure which is available from June 5.

P&O Cruises commercial director, Nigel Esdale, said 'we are committed to working with its travel agent partners to attract and convert newcomers to cruising, and this introductory DVD is one way we are doing this.'

The new brochure includes the first announcement of the 2008 spring Caribbean itineraries for Arcadia and Oceana, as well as the complete 2007 itineraries for all five ships in the fleet from April to December. New ports include Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Savannah in the US and Valencia in Spain, as well as lesser-known Baltic ports of Vaasa in Finland and Klaipeda in Lithuania.

In addition P&O Cruises is releasing its 2007/08 World Voyages brochure three months ahead of schedule, 'to meet a surge in demand for far flung, multiple destination travel,' reports the line. The preview brochure, also available from next Monday, contains three voyages on Artemis, Aurora and Oriana.

Frequent requests for unusual ports has led the UK brand to deploy Artemis, the smallest ship in the fleet, on an 84-night 'South American Odyssey' departing in December 2007. Port include Santarem, Manaus and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Buenos Aires and Puerto Madryn in Argentina, Montevideo in Uruguay, Santiago and Coquimbo in Chile, Lima in Peru and Manta in Ecuador. The Odyssey also features two 'cruise by' destinations new to P&O Cruises: Amalia Glacier and PIO X Glacier in Chile. Also on the itinerary are new ports Roatan in Honduras and Belize.

The Aurora world cruise is an 80-night voyage departing in January 2008, visiting 26 ports on a full circumnavigation. Taking in destinations in the Caribbean, US, South Pacific, Australasia and the Orient, Aurora will transit the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal before returning to the UK.

Also departing in January 2008, Oriana's 101-night 'Grand Voyage' is the longest itinerary with 40 ports of call. Placing more emphasis on Asia, Oriana features new ports of Kemaman and Langkawi in Malaysia, along with other calls in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, China and Taiwan. She also features new port Reunion in the Indian Ocean and Dubai. Oriana's Grand Voyage features nine ports in Australia including Cairns, Whitsunday Islands, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Fares start from £8,128 for the Artemis South American Odyssey, £7,726 for the Aurora World Cruise and £9,046 for the Oriana Grand Voyage. Prices are per person, based on two adults sharing a twin cabin and include a maximum 45% discount off the full voyage fare.

I note in the above a frequent demand for unusual or new ports.

Is there any cruise line in the world that has ever docked in Cuba?

I have heard US residents are phorbidden to visit this country, does this ban extend to UK residents on UK ships?

One place I have visited I should mention is Oman, that was on Oriana's world voyage this year. I feel it really was worth a visit and interesting to see.

Next year I am sailing on Oriana from Southampton to Sydney.

Is that the free DVD you can get already without a brochure? If so, it's a bit naff but better than their old video. And not as bad as P&O Australia's. Hammy acting and dodgy script in that one. So, when's the brochure out? Wasn't in the shops Tuesday that's for sure. Neither's the Cunard one and I've already got that so it should be really.

The ban only applies to US citizens. Many lines call there, Fred. Olsen, Discovery, Deilmann.. and Pullmantur homeport Holiday Dream at Havana.

What did you visit in Oman? A friend said it was the highlight of the segment she took on QE2 this year.

Cuba seems to be growing in popularity with Brits. They normally fly.

Yes, very popular indeed. I was sent a photo of Holiday Dream in Havana recently.. I'll ask if I can scan it and post.

Mine arrived in the post this morning, although I haven't yet dismantled the rather chunky package to see what's inside. So I expect that everyone who's on the mailing list will be getting one very shortly - hope yours turns up soon!

I visited Salalah in Oman. It was on the Oriana.

There was plenty of mountains and desert making it a scenic place, the beach and views of the coast was excellent. Tour destinations included Biblical Prophet "Job's" tomb, we went past remains of anciant mudbrick castles being excavated for tourism.

Salalah was old and new contrast, the old part of the city was the crumbling mud brick buildings where the modern part they are really making an effort to build new buildings etc, the road system was excellent.

The tour guide was excellent to. He was a traditional Muslim and had the whole outfit, very friendly and happy to pose for photos, he was very informative and unlike the guides in Egypt he did not ask or entrap passengers in the bus asking for tips at the end.

The markets were good, I managed to geet Frankincence oils and actual Frankincence rocks that I took home to my local church to burn.

The women were dressed up so you could only see their eyes, but at the stalls they had no problem being open and encouraging to make a sale, they seemed to be happy to bargain and had a sense of humour about it.

I feel the Middle East is a place you really have to see to believe.

Thanks, Globaliser. I hope so! Though I always seem to get Cunard I never get P&O even though I'm on their mailing list. Well if I get a spare DVD whichever way I get the brochure I'll give it to my friend to tempt her to go on P&O next year. LOL!

You mean Arab.

Oman as a destination? It will be the next hottest place to visit cruise-wise. Hopefully things will calm down in the region so that people can also visit Iran and Pakistan (with India already becoming a popular cruise hub).

I've just opened my package, and I'm afraid to say that if you want even one DVD you may well be disappointed. In fact, I should have known from the fact that I could bend the package. Lots of paper, and a good thick main brochure - but no DVD in sight. Sorry!

I think that with P&O being owned by Carnival I don't think they would be allowed to go to Cuba.

I know that Braemar makes regular calls to Santiago de Cuba but I don't think I've seen Arcadia or Oceana call there.

The UK is currently cutting costs and that means banning brochures going overseas. They have also ceased sending out Portunus Club magazines to members outside UK.

The same thing occured with P&O Australia.
Few years ago it was still possible to order one of their brochures.

I remember that the P&O brochure with the inaugural season of the Pacific Sun arrived in just 10 days.

Later they have established this policy: P&O Australia brochures are posted only within Australia and New Zealand.

I wonder if P&O Australia is still marketed outside Australia and New Zealand.

Shame about the cost cutting on brochurs going overseas. I would love to fly to Southampton and cruise to Norway/Iceland or the Baltic.

To overseas people wanting to book in Australia with P&O. You will get a better deal if you try to make arrangements directly with P&O Australia. When you are overseas they make you pay more in your own currency than what it really is in our dollars.
