Is there any cruise line in the world that has ever docked in Cuba?
I have heard US residents are phorbidden to visit this country, does this ban extend to UK residents on UK ships?
One place I have visited I should mention is Oman, that was on Oriana's world voyage this year. I feel it really was worth a visit and interesting to see.
Next year I am sailing on Oriana from Southampton to Sydney.

The ban only applies to US citizens. Many lines call there, Fred. Olsen, Discovery, Deilmann.. and Pullmantur homeport Holiday Dream at Havana.
What did you visit in Oman? A friend said it was the highlight of the segment she took on QE2 this year.

Cuba seems to be growing in popularity with Brits. They normally fly.

There was plenty of mountains and desert making it a scenic place, the beach and views of the coast was excellent. Tour destinations included Biblical Prophet "Job's" tomb, we went past remains of anciant mudbrick castles being excavated for tourism.
Salalah was old and new contrast, the old part of the city was the crumbling mud brick buildings where the modern part they are really making an effort to build new buildings etc, the road system was excellent.
The tour guide was excellent to. He was a traditional Muslim and had the whole outfit, very friendly and happy to pose for photos, he was very informative and unlike the guides in Egypt he did not ask or entrap passengers in the bus asking for tips at the end.
The markets were good, I managed to geet Frankincence oils and actual Frankincence rocks that I took home to my local church to burn.
The women were dressed up so you could only see their eyes, but at the stalls they had no problem being open and encouraging to make a sale, they seemed to be happy to bargain and had a sense of humour about it.
I feel the Middle East is a place you really have to see to believe.

You mean Arab.
Oman as a destination? It will be the next hottest place to visit cruise-wise. Hopefully things will calm down in the region so that people can also visit Iran and Pakistan (with India already becoming a popular cruise hub).

I know that Braemar makes regular calls to Santiago de Cuba but I don't think I've seen Arcadia or Oceana call there.

Jeff, looks like you'll have to get someone from the UK to do you a favour. Anyone interested in helping out a fellow CTer?
quote:Originally posted by Sutho:The UK is currently cutting costs and that means banning brochures going overseas. They have also ceased sending out Portunus Club magazines to members outside UK.
The same thing occured with P&O Australia.Few years ago it was still possible to order one of their brochures.
I remember that the P&O brochure with the inaugural season of the Pacific Sun arrived in just 10 days.
Later they have established this policy: P&O Australia brochures are posted only within Australia and New Zealand.
I wonder if P&O Australia is still marketed outside Australia and New Zealand.
To overseas people wanting to book in Australia with P&O. You will get a better deal if you try to make arrangements directly with P&O Australia. When you are overseas they make you pay more in your own currency than what it really is in our dollars.
