Sources on both sides of the Atlantic said the second Carnival Corp. & plc post-Panamax newbuild for 2008 delivery will go to the Carnival Cruise Lines brand. A Carnival spokeswoman would say only that there is no announcement yet on the second ship.

Earlier this week, Carnival chairman and ceo Micky Arison said the brand designations for the pair of vessels would be made public soon, and it was disclosed today that P&O Cruises will get one of the orders. As reported, the 116,000gt vessel will be called Ventura.

In a separate development, Arison and Fincantieri’s entire cruise top management team headed by director Enrico Buschi are in deep talks over further newbuildings, including one or more for Costa Crociere, Seatrade Insider has learned. The most recent of such meetings took place last week in Naples, Italy.

‘We are talking to shipyards all the time,’ the Carnival spokeswoman said.

Whats really fascinating is that the two post-panamax "series" Carnival has were both designed and inagurated in the 90s....

By 2008, these designs would be atleast 11 years old...and the thought that Costa would have another one of the CONQUEST-clone is just saddening...

It's even worse, Waynaro. Carnival Destiny entered service in 1996, that's to say its design was decided at least 3 years before. It will be in fact a 15 years old design !

Having cruised on both Costa Fortuna and Carnival Valor I can say that I don't like much the Destiny class and its evolutions.

The layout of all these ships isn't good, particularly when compared with the smaller Spirit/Vista classes.

My observations about the two main problems of the Destiny class and its evolutions:

1) The cabins with private balconies are slighty smaller than the standard outside ones, as the balcony take away some space in the cabin.

2) The presence of a midship restaurant creates many problems of circulation. On decks 3 and 4 you cant reach the afterward of the ship from farward and viceversa, but you have to go up to deck 5.

It's time for Carnival Corporation to develop a new class of cruise ships... frankly there are too many Destiny/Glory and Spirit/Vista classes around.

I suggest that we drop the term 'newbuild' and substitute it with the term 'samebuild'!

I agree, but these (Conquest-class and Grand-class) will be the last of the 'samebuilds' at Fincantieri, the next lot won't be samebuilds until there are a few of those around...confusing?
