The new Ship of Peter Deilmann Kreuzfahrten will replace the loosed cabins of the "Berlin".

The newbuilt will carry 700 passengers and cwill cost nearly 200 million €.

Another difference to the "Deutschland": the ship should attract a more international public, without loosing the elegant luxury.

So there saying it will be a nice ship and have standard features but not the classic edwardian era of the Deutschland interiors?......

I heard that Mr. Deilman complained a lot about HDW and German yards in general after all the problems with the Deutschland.

I am rather surprised as I was previously under the impression, obviously incorrectly, that the Deilmann sisters had no interest in the cruising and wished to wind it down eventually... perhaps they are no longer dealing with things?

Part of Deilmann's original concept was that Deutschland would resemble older vessls, hence no balconies etc... now he's gone, I suppose the company is moving towards what all new vessels must have these days?

It is a bit surprising - actually one of the R vessels would fit - they have a similar "tacky" decor (tough not so sophisticated) but feature balconies etc.

Hello everybody,

where did this "Deilmann about to order" rumor come up?

Fact is that the Deilmann sisters told a German national newspaper that they have been unsuccessful in finding an existing ship to join their fleet, and that as a result of this they have now begun working on the design (!) of a newbuild for approx. 700 passengers.

According to the sisters, the ship will be ordered in late 2006 at the earliest (!). Hence, no decision whether or whether not to build the ship in Germany has been made. However, the sisters have said that they will not concentrate on working with German yards only.

What's also interesting is that the company plans to market the new vessel in the UK and in America on a much larger scale than the "Deutschland". The ship's interiors will likely reflect this, according to the newspaper article.

Best,

Raoul

Thanks Raoul. So it is something for the future, being mulled over at present? Have the sisters decided they do want to continue then & are taking an active interest in the cruise side of things? & why does everyone refer to them as the 'Deilmann Sisters'? I am sure they must have names, and it would be much nicer to refer to them by that means rather than as 'the sisters'?

Pam

Yes Pam, how sexist we all are!

They should be called the 'Peter Deilmann Sisters'! They are ONLY women, after all.

I can't begin to think what a ship designed by women would look like? I bet it will be pink! I also bet that all of the toilet seats automatically return to the upright position. Imagine the size of the Beauty Therapy Center, it will probably take up 80% of the ship.

Well, this would make sense as they are also targeting the U.K. market - maybe add some turqoise.

Pam,

the Deilmann twin sisters do have names: Gisa and Hedda Deilmann.

The term "Deilmann sisters" is, however, even used onboard the ships and has become widely common.

I don't know whether the two ever had the intention not to continue with their father's cruise company. However, they have been brave enough to make decisions their late father didn't want to make, including the sale of his beloved but oh so unprofitable "Lili Marleen" and the fitting consequence in light of the "Berlin's" owners' unwillingness to refurbish that ship in a way that would make it a four-star vessel again.

Best,

Raoul

It sounds like a team of "singing sisters" who perform on cruise ships.

Does anyone have sketches or ideas as to what it might look like? A larger version of the Deutschland perhaps? Maybe one with two funnels; one could hope.

Any ideas for names? I know it sounds dated, but "Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria" has a loverly ring to it.

What a shame. Surely there are enough pax looking for something different that Deilmann doesn't have to try and be Carnivalesque.
