Thanks for the news bit bulbousbow. I think this/these newbuild(s) will be bigger than the current ship and obviously have a higher capacity and probably more "ship like" rather than "yacht like".

I wonder if the staterooms will have windows

He's optimistic.

I can see EasyCruise making a modest profit, but I would not have expected the returns to pay for a newbuild.

I do not think that easycruise is a direct competitor to Carnival. Like youth hostels or very simple hotels/accomodations are not in competition with resorts easycruise will not be in direct competition to Carnival - it is finally broadening the variety of possibilites to travel by ship. (which is good!)

I saw someone comment in one of the ferry groups that perhaps easyCruise may be interested in Silja Opera

I agree. But interestingly Carnival will not normally sell any of its various brands second-hand ships to potential competitors. They see nearly everyone as a threat.

Stelios Haji-Ioannou is very ambitious, there are rumours he wants eight new ships for easyCruise and that he has already had contact with Chantiers de l'Atlantique and Meyer Werft.

Despite my previous experience on easyCruiseOne, i think I'd probably try Two just to see what has changed. Easy brands are generally very good at adapting their business and operation to what works or doesn't. For round two, the operation of easyOne would suggest to me that they could get away with an even greater proportion of accom to public space. For that reason I reckon that the suggested ferries are wrong - too much public room. Why have onboard spaces when the operation is designed so that noone is onboard?

How large could an easycruise vessel be? I don not really see a 2000 passengers vessel for this concept - also an easycruise vessel with virtually no public rooms can be much smaller for the same number of passengers compared to a conventional vessel.
So I guess the ferries in question would be too big to be converted to ships like the first vessel (imagine all car decks and most public spaces filled with cabins - they would carry quite a lot of people!) - but of course there is the option to more or less leave them as they are and operate them in a more conventional way. (=more public space)

Don't forget, just after 9/11, when the major airlines were shedding aircraft and crew, easyJet bought 20-odd NEW 737s from Boeing.
