Princess Cruises will offer its largest ever Asia deployment in 2006-07, when the company increases capacity in the region by 25%.
Pacific Princess and Sapphire Princess will return to Asia starting from next May.
Fifteen departures of eight itineraries will be offered, including a ‘China & Far East’ route, which adds the new port of Kagoshima, Japan.
Pacific Princess also debuts a ‘Southeast Asia & India’ voyage that will add the new port of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, a gateway to Angkor Wat.
The itinerary featuring Cambodia is a 15-day Bangkok-Mumbai programme, which also calls at Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Phuket, Colombo and Goa.
Other cruises include two departures of a 16-day Beijing-Bangkok programme visiting Nagasaki, Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore, and a 12-day Beijing-Osaka journey visiting Taipei, Okinawa, Kagoshima, Dalian, Shanghai and Pusan.

It is good to see that some of the major international cruise companies are expanding and committing themselves to Asia. There is a lot of interesting sights and experiences in that part of the world (many accesssable from the sea) and that we will have a choice. Hopefully it will be affordable, even for us North Americans.

Anyhow goosd luck to Princess and hopefully the others will follow.

In the early 1970's, New pier in the port of Kagoshima was built to berth for Canberra but Oronsay did call at Kagoshima in 1973 for P&O's first ship to call at this port.

Canberra deployed to New York in 1973.

Thereafter, Arcadia, Ellinis, Kungsholm, Fairstar, Canberra, Oriana(1) & (2), QE2 and other cruise ships visited to Kagoshima.

OL: Speaking of Kagoshima, when was the last eruption of Sakura-jima? I remember TV news coverage but not the dates.

Cambodge,

An eruption occurred on 25 April 2004 which produced an ash plume that rose 1.3 km above the volcano and extended North.
