I love to cruise Princess, so it really doesn't matter to me wear where they go, as long as it is warm, and upon the sea!!

Happiness is being on a cruise!!

I have sailed many lines (Carnival, Celebrity, RCCL and Princess) and prefer Princess also.

I am willing to try other lines and would love to try HAL and Radisson but of the lines I have sailed, Princess is my clear choice.

There are areas in which I wish Princess would improve on but one will find that with any line.

This is very subjective. I haven't tried Princess yet, but I am really tempted to try the pre-Grand-class ships. I feel they are just the right size and the perfect capacity. I am no desire to try Grand-class based ships.

Yes, Princess really went mass market, but maybe the atmosphere on the "smaller" ships are different than Princess' Caribbean Busses??

Oddly enough, I never felt crowded on the Grand Princess, which we were on this January. I have heard others say also that they feel a good deal less crowded than the previous class. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Some Food for Thought: Out of the Top 10 Best Large Ships in the 2005 Conde Nast Traveler readers poll, 6 are from Celebrity and 3 are from Princess. One ship (number 10 in ranking) is from HAL. CONSTELLATION and ISLAND PRINCESS are tied for the number two spot. Now, subscribers to CN Traveler are generally well heeled, well educated or well traveled or all three, and those readers are ranking Princess in the top 10 for large ships with one of Princess' ships tied for second to the top spot.

Hmmmm, Princess can't be that bad after all....

Edit: Adding Link to Poll

CN Traveler Readers Poll: Worlds Best Cruise Ships: Large.

Princess is a great line. We have done 7 Princess Cruises in the last 10 years (none on the Grand Class) and have always had a terrific time with wonderful service. I actually prefer them to Celebrity (2 cruises) and I think they are in the same league as HAL (5 cruises to date) when comparing mass market lines.

I do prefer the smaller ships of Princess' line (Sun and Coral class) to the Grand class. I don't find the Grand class crowded but just prefer the smaller sized ships (77,000 - 90,000). The Coral Princess has been the best ship I have been on. I am sure I would love their smaller ships but haven't had a chance to sail them yet.

Maybe it was an exception, but we were greatly disappointed with our Celebrity Millennium cruise. Right now, I would choose Princess over Celebrity.

I am anxious to try some of the smaller cruise ships out there (30,000 - 50,000 tonns). The more I sail the larger ships, the more I want to sail on the smaller ones. I am also anxious to try some of the lines that have smaller ships (MSC, Oceania, Radisson, etc. . )

I've sailed on Princess more than any other line. 14 or 15 times I think (as a passenger). I used to LOVE Princess. Now I think they are just ok. I don't find the food or service to be any better than other mass market lines like Carnival or Royal Caribbean. In fact I think Carnival is superior.

Celebrity is my favorite "large ship" line. I find the experience much more refined and the attention to detail is far greater. No annoying PA's and bargain basement tables in the lobby selling t-shirts like on Princess. Another thing I dislike about Princess is their so-called "fine art". Instead of just having one area to display the art (which you can easily avoid), it's strewn throughout the entire ship, and most of it is crap. I think it cheapens the look of the ships. Don't even get me started on the bland decor. Truly uninspired complete with Holiday Inn hotel art but other people seem to love it. I admit it's comfortable, but that is the best thing I can say about it. It really lacks finesse.

Princess really isn't a bad line and I will continue to sail on them, I just find they have become 100% mass-market just like Carnival, NCL, and Royal Caribbean. I had higher hopes for them and most of the things they do today (like MUTS) I find disappointing. I definitely place HAL and Celebrity a notch above.

Ernie, why do you dislike MUTS? I think most cruisers who have experienced it love it. Myself included. I have sailed both Celebrity and Princess and really saw no difference,s in service, food or entertainment to brand Celebrity a Premium line and Princess a mass market line. I found them both very equal to each other.

This is a semi-aside here, but appropriate.

I dropped my subscription to Conde Nast Traveler because of their indifferent coverage of cruising. Perhaps it has changed now, but they used to merely rate the Line, rather than the ships. I called their attention to this in several emails which were never answered. I commented that they did not just rate "Hilton," "Four Seasons,"or "Raddison" but they rated specific hotels at specific locations.

But, based on reader polls, they merely rated "Holland America" or "Cunard," for example without being ship-specific. They even rated Diellman (sp?) highly without specifing whether it was for river cruises or deepwater.

In their "best of the best" or whatever editions, they went of for page after page in listing and describing hotels, but allocated just one or two pages on the entire cruise-ship inventory.

Perhaps they have changed. Perhaps they read my emails. But I don't read the magazine any more except in a few doctor's offices, so I do not know.

On my comparisons - I rank Celebrity lower then Princess when it came to food and service. I know others see it the opposite way.

While Conde Naste does rank Celebrity higher, it is however, just slightly higher. Not a significant difference.

And strangely enough, I felt quartered and dollared on Celebrity. Everything on their ship is overpriced compared to other lines (comparing oranges to oranges). Their tours, drinks, transfers, etc. . are higher for the same product. Having sailed Princess and Celebrity within 2 months of each other - I was very surprised at the cost differences on the ship.

What is MUTS?

As for comparing the ships, first of all Conde Nast bases its results on numbers of people travelling on each line who send in opinions - which is presumably why Carnival and P&O don't figure as very few Conde Nast Readers would sail with them.

As for the Princess v. Celebrity debate I think that the food is much better on Celeb and when it comes to an environment in which to sail I think celebrity ships are all gorgeous in terms of decor and art whilst the interiors on Princess are geared to middle-class, middle-brow, middle-american country club members: bland and dull and soothing.

I love Princess as well as Celebrity for different reasons. A few years ago I would have rated Celebrity higher as Princess seemed to let thing "go" a little, but on the past two cruises they have raised their standards again. I would rank Celebrity high for atmosphere, lack of ship board announcements and keeping dinner as an "event". Princess ranks high for food quality, price, a relaxed, but still sophisticated atmosphere and I do enjoy most of their ships designs. Granted, the Grand Class aren't the prettest a float from the out side, but they are great on the inside. I still prefer the Sun Class and hope to go on the Coral Class in the future. Both crews are excellent and have always had a wonderful time with out feeling nickel and dimed or too stuffy.

i just come back from my cruise with the dawn princess and ofcourse i had a wonderfull time but princess is for me not the most attractive line.It is too commercial.Everyone is trying to sell you something and the atmosphere is not as warm as on other lines i was on.They also put me in th e "everytime diner".That means that you don't have your own waiter, but every evening another. And i don't like that. The shows were a little bit boring. And they were on strange time scedules ,so sometimes you could't see any of theme. The ship was wonderfull but the next time i choose something else.

Well someone from "Middle America" certainly could, but "Middle Class" is something else entirely.

There afcorse diffrends between cruiselines. There ships, service, products etc, etc. So people have a choise some like the neonlighting products of Carnival and some like the ultra luxuerious products of Readisson. The most importened aspect of making a cruise is also the budget.

I believe it dosn't matter wich cruiseline people sail and why as long as people have fun and a great time.

Greatings Ben.

After the way Malcolm treated her initially, it's not surprising the she wouldn't return.

i must to admit , that at the time (early 90's or so)
when i was young innocent , cruise ship amused
child , i use to think about the Pacific Princess
as the ship of dreams...(mostly because of ''love boat'')
i remember when i was in a cruise with my parents
and one day , while why docked in pireaus , my father woke me up early in the morning , to go up to the deck and see the Pacific princess that docked
there too....what an exitment it was!
so i guess its pretty natural for me to love Princess at the time

I agree with you Charlene. There is nothing like being on a cruise. I would had probably been on my 10th by now, if I did not get pregnant 2 times in 3 years. I will be going on my 3rd cruise this July to Alaska. I went on two cruises last year and haven't stopped thinking about them. If it wasn't for my schedule, I would have gone on one this month. Anyway, I planned one for July and for December 2005. I now am a cruiser for life.
