Do you think that vending machines onboard would spoil the image of the cruise or you find it a good idea in the late hours when you are thirsty or hungry?

what, 24 hour room service isn't standard on a cruise ship. It's not like you can drive down to the local shop is it?

Welcome aboard mili.

Maybe, but it wouldn't surprise me if Coca Cola, Pepsi or any of the snack food manufacturers made deals with the cruise lines... a good question.

Cheers

Interesting idea. I would probably use vending machines if available and stocked with healthy alternatives in addition to the usual junk food. I would want to pay using the on-board cash card/key provided by the cruise line. Then the purchase would be available on my account summary, and available for my viewing. Carnival does this competently (the account and the card, not the vending machine).

calm seas...Kenneth

On most of the ships I've been on, it's difficult to find any time when they're NOT serving food and drink somewhere.

Vending machines are found on many ships; however only for the use of the crew

Mili,
Nice idea....but do you really think there is the necessity for vending machines on ships?

I myself like the idea of keeping vending machines and McD`s on dry land......helps to make the cruise something special

Maybe a good thought for the European cruises though as they rarely have buffets open for 24 Hrs....on the otherhand though it`s also an additional lure to put on some more lbs ....and I think we all fgight that problem

I don't like the idea off vending machines in the passenger space. The solution provide a litle shop a/b ship where you are able to purchase such snacks and drinks whene everting is closed, ore introduce roomservice a/b ships without roomservice. This would be rather more elegant thene those ugly vending machines.

Vending Machines are for ferries; have no place on a Cruise Ship, imo. Isn't it Japan where there is about one vending machine for every 3 people? I recall seeing a TV programme where one could even get a hot-dog, noodles or burger and fries, out of a 'hole in the wall' vending machine in Tokyo.

The only vending machine that I think are appropriate on cruise ships would be 'condom' ones!

They neither fit in with the concept of luxuary or the cash-free environment. Anyway, if you lost your money you would then require a staff member.

Hey lets put them on Aitcraft too!

I have seen a basket of free ones in a Medical Centre. I don't know it's a usual thing, or if that was a one off, as I've only ever actually been in one, as opposed to looking throguh the door.

The only vending machine we have on board is a Coca-Cola used by crew only , owned by the crew bar / crew welfare.

I think.........put theme every where inn every lounge, restaurant, cabin, hallway, ellevators etc. etc.

No just jocking a litle bit CGT.
They are ugly and not fore cruiseships.

In the Piazza Italia a/b Costa Romantica there was a fending machine such as one you will find in supermarkets fore frozenfoods. They keep there the icecream. This machine standing in the corner off the room. Buth in that corner was also in usse fore passengers. It was an ugly site this machine was al lite up. And you woulden't find any passenger sitting there at day and night. Happy they have moved the machine by now.........

I have been on a ship where tea/coffee was NOT available after midnight, so I would have been greatful of a vending machine, then, if it worked!

I think if a grown man is embarrassed to purchase condoms then maybe he should not be comiting the act, and why did he not bring some anyway? Universe Explorer had vending machines on deck they however covered them when cruising during the off campus cruises.

Absolutley no vending machines should be on a cruise ship. Except maybe Carnival, as the customers most likely won't notice the difference. But on any others it would be totally tasteless. My last cruise on a RCCI ship had outdoor carpet on the promanade deck which was horrible, and in the sushi bar, they served its sushi on plastic trays. Which any real affectionado of Japanese food would detest. That would be the equivalant of asking for "fries" with an elegant dinner, or asking the Matire de where the juke box is located? It all depends on your idea of refinement. Keep the vending machines at the bus station.

When I was on the Regal Empress in 1993 or 1996 the ship had vending machines for passenger use. It was in the enclosed promanade area if memory serves me right. I thought it was a bit cheesy looking.

I remember a Soft Drink Vending Machine in the Teen Center on Premier's Majestic. That may be the only appropriate place I could think of for passenger use on a cruise ship. It did offer an option to the kids, other than piling up at the bar in the Club Universe Showlounge.

I was on board Nippon Maru, Fuji Maru, Orient Venus, Pacific Venus and Asuka.
There are drinks vending machines except Asuka.
