I am a Travel agent in a small town in Pennsylvania. I recently had a group of 131 people and 65 Cabins that were to sail on the Carnival Miracle. We Were bumped from the Sailing and given a choice of either going to the west coast to cruise the Mexican Riveria or going on the Carnival Legend on a different date. We were informed of this 6 weeks before sailing. It is plain to see that they do not care that they have purposely overbooked ships to make more money, and that they are playing with peoples lives, and their vacation schedule. I originally booked this group in June of 2003. How can they possibly come to us and tell us that we were one of the last groups to book this ship!!!!! I am so thankful for the clients that we had going on this booking that were in full support of our agency. It has happened to literally thousands and thousands of people, not just hundreds like in the article from the Baltimore Sun

There are already several threads regarding this very topic. Believe me, we all know the situation and feel bad for you, but how about replying to the threads that already exists rather than starting the same thread all over again.

I'm always suspicious when I see posts like this from new members with only a single post. Can we say "agenda".

The topic does say "again". Give the newcomer a break. I don't post very often either but read everyday...does that make what I have to say an "agenda"?
As a former travel agent myself, I really feel for these agents who have to try to explain all this to their clients. Especially for an agent in a small town. These clients have chosen to put their faith and $$ in their agents. This one is lucky the clients rolled with it so well and supported their agency. I read on the other thread talk of lawsuits...I'm afraid some people would blame their agent also for something that is totally out of their control.

Yes, it does say "again", but how it is any different than the first time? This topic is being discussed in depth on another thread, and I see no reason to start a new one on the same subject.

I also stand by what I said regarding the member's first post. I remain suspicious. Why wait until now to contribute to the board? Trying to spread the word I guess.

Eroller: I try to stay friends and with a peaceful relationship and attitude with all posters here, even though I disagree with some.

In this case, I must ask, what is YOUR agenda?

Carnival has screwed some more people, again. It is reported, as it should be. And you seem to intimate that there is some sort of dark conspiratorial force in play here. This topic could, and in my opinion, should, be posted far and wide.

It should not be tucked down in the bowels of another posting on the same subject. We all know how far from the originally posted topic subsequent postings can drift.

So let the newcomer tell his/her tale. We can all benefit. This dissemination of information is one of the major elements of merit of Cruise Talk.

I don't have an agenda, except to wonder how this post differs from the first one? It doesn't say it is a different date, and in fact it doesn't say a date at all. I don't deny that it happened, and that Carnival made a huge mistake, but that doesn't change the fact that it's all be said before in another thread and discussed in detail.

I've stated how I feel, and you have done the same. We obviously have our own opinions which is fine. Leave it at that.

Now get off my back already!

Ernie

With due respect to long time posters, if it irritates folks on message boards to have old topics restarted on fresh threads, it is simply something unavoidable with open forums like this. This isn’t an actively moderated forum, otherwise the thread would have been merged with the previous ones. Since it isn’t, I suggest we leave people alone rather than pick pointless fights over their right to post about whatever they want with their first post.

I’ve been amazed at how fast anybody with a negative view or experience is pounced and denounced on these forums-on any specific web site. I spoke with my own travel agent where I live, and she has had a group of 8 bumped from Carnival. If I read these forums and was feeling wronged, I’d want to start off with something relevant to me. I’m not even trying to book on carnival and frankly I’m very interested in hearing about these problems. I’m educated enough to put the posts in their proper context and not assume more than what can be safely implied.

I do think folks can come here with the explicit purpose of venting anger, but then maybe that is something we should learn to deal with, rather than feed the misconception that cruise fans like to glaze over the negative. There are better ways to smoke out an agenda without being overtly rough on somebody.

I am part of another message boards ( un-cruise related ) and they get a lot of several threads on this one new computer system since its a hot topic, just post a link to the other thread already started and say its already a topic were talking about.

BTW some times new people today become tomorrow's moderators so i always try to be nice to newcomers...

Thanks, Draiker, for being nice to newcomers--obviously some of you folks are quite practiced at message boards, but some of us are not...To eroller:"Can we say "forgive us"??!! And get over it!

It sounds like a different incident. If this type of occurence is increasing then it should get publicized and Carnival should get their noses bloodied publicly every single time they pull this outrageous act. Starting a new thread accomplishes this far better than just adding a new post to an existing thread where it is less likely to get read.

To Fjones2: Thanks for posting. What was the sailing date of the intended cruise?

Brian

Thanks Brian,
the sailing date for our cruise was to be October 17th.
I also have talked to an area agent that was bumped with 191 cabins and 400 passengers for the October 24th sailing.
This is not old news, every one is a new story !!!!!!!!!

That is the whole point of my earlier posting. It is not only new news, but sadly, it is an additional development of a wrong-headed policy, and should rightly have been so posted.

I am also one of those "reads a lot, post a little". I agree, give the newcomer a break. What could be the big "hidden agenda"?... giving Carnival's way of doing business a bad name...LOL, they do they pretty well publicly on their own without a small town agent's help.

And as far as the "new" thread thing.. ALL of us start threads that are related in some way to a past posting. If it weren't allowed there would be one thread on here with about 40k postings on it called "QM2 LoveFest"... LOL.
(just trying to bring some light hearted humor and insight). Infact I see 2 threads on the first page that in your opinion that should not coexist- "Pride of Aloha" and "NCL Statement". Did anyone jump down the throat of these posters? No. Where's the agenda?

I was once a newcomer with an axe to grind! & this provided a lot of hilarity when it was compared to a positive review posted about part of the same cruise. However I have hung around & try to contribute whenever i can but they should have taken notice of my gripes--they are now bankrupt!!!

I am one of the people that was bumped from the October 17 Miracle. This would have been my first cruise, which was to be with several family members that live in the Baltimore area. Luckily, they were not part of a group that was bumped. I've now had a few days to get used to the idea that I won't be on that family cruise, but I'm still having a tough time with the fact that Carnival has offered no compensation for the nonrefundable airfare that I purchased to get to my "guaranteed" cabin on the cruise.

Interesting. It seems more of you are concerned with debating what I said in my original post than this persons ordeal with Carnival.

Obviously I was wrong regarding the OP and their intentions. I had my reasons to suspect otherwise which I won't get into, but none the less I offer my apologies to them. I also feel Carnival totally screwed up and unfairly treated these passengers which I expressed more than once in the other post on this same subject.

Thank you eroller, but no apology is necessary. I had only good intentions.
THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID OVER AND OVER UNTIL PEOPLE GET THE MESSAGE!!!!!!
It involves a lot more people than the article in the Baltimore Sun indicated.
