It appears that Hurricane Frances may be coming up the Florida coast from the southeast at approximately the same time as the Glory.
We've been on cruises in multiple hurricanes, and the Glory shouldn't have any problems while at sea. The issue is about docking.
What generally happens when a ship cannot get into its scheduled port? Do they (a) divert to another port; (b) wait the storm out or (c) cancel the cruise? If they wait the storm out, I presume that itinerary would be changed.
Are certificates or vouchers issued in these circumstances?
Based on any past experiences, how early would Carnival make this decision?
Since we live under 2 hours away, our issue is not getting to the port. Of course, this same storm puts our home in harm's way. But, there's nothing we can do about that. So, we will still go on the cruise.
Have a great time on the Glory.

We anticipate that it will be a very rough cruise. But, we think this will not be as rough as our transatlantic cruise on Vision of the Seas. I do hope that we miss hurricane Ivan. Ivan is supposed to be around PR around Thursday.
The media coverage down here has been massive. There is a weather update almost every 15 minutes. It will be nice to be away from it all on a cruise.
We should be able to get to Port Canaveral tomorrow (Tuesday).
So far, we've had no damage to our home. However, we have been without power multiple times. It's still very windy and wet (day #3).
chrisrotlmacin a week at sea would keep you busy in your job Enjoy and let us now where you do end up eventually, and who left their luggage back home. [I have giggled over that with many friends over the last few days, all think it's hilarious]. Norwegian Dawn is a lovely ship; again I wouldn't care if there were no ports of call. In fact they can be an an intrusion unless full of other interesting ships/ferries/yachts etc to pore over.
Carnival refers hurricane issues to their WEB site. This site is not always kept current.
I had looked at 3 p.m. and there was no change. At 5:30 p.m., I was called by their Call Center. The person I spoke with really was not properly informed. So, I checked the WEB site and talked to another Carnival representative.
Port Canaveral has sustained enough damage that ships cannot embark or debark there. The Carnival Glory is now leaving from Miami.
What Carnival is going to do is bus people from the Port or the Orlando airport.
When I was called, the person did not even mention the option of parking at the port. She was totally unfamiliar with the Orlando Airport or any of the Carnival procedures in a situation like this. I was told my only option was to go to the airport and, essentially, to figure it out for myself.
We are o.k. with driving to the Port and leaving our car there. We were not o.k. with going to the airport and not having specific instructions about what to do other than going to baggage claim, especially when we're not flying there.
I find it hard to believe that this information could not have been posted earlier, when we're supposed to be referring to their WEB site.
