Do you hate cruising on a cruise ship ??? Did you go on your first cruise and hated it or hated a cruise line you said you would never sail with again !!! Or if you hate to take a trip on a ship again, then why read this discussion forum unless you want to try a cruise again. Tell us or me about your first bad cruise and why you did or are thinking of a cruise again with same line or others ?

Boy, that seems pretty negative.

Four sentences and the word "hate" or "hated" appears just as many times.

I'd rather hear about something great that happened on a cruise,.....

We have had 20 cruises on 8 cruise lines and never had a ship we even disliked, never mind hated. We enjoyed something about them all.

As with everything in life, problems do sometimes occur. However when I am on vacation, I want to have a wonderful time and to remember the great portions of vacation. As a result I tend to not allow myself to dwell on any negative occurances, after all why ruin the time set aside for pleasure? I have returned from over 30 cruises and over 300 days on ships with no regrets. A few lessons learnt along the way but no experiences horrible enough to stop me from sailing again with a line or on a particular vessel.

I asked because I seen this real negative review and wanted to know if anyone ever felt "ripped" off as this one guy said but as I think about it he may be one of the passengers you see on cruises that complain a lot, Like when its sunny and nice out they say its too sunny.

If i find this guys review again i will post it.

What an unusual question to ask on a cruise forum, but never the less perfectly valid.

I have had a few problems on cruises, including some poor entertainment and mediocre food and service. Of course it is all very subjective. However, I have always enjoyed the overall experience.

I think the problem with cruising is that it often does promiss so much, and that included the budget lines. In many cases the product is unlikely to match the publicity.

However, if you look at the Readers Reviews section (menu left) for every negative review there are probably ten positive ones, sometimes more.

We had one really bad cruise on the Norway. There were problems with the staff. Immediately preceding the cruise, the staff had to work while the ship was in drydock. I understand that this was for no pay. So, they weren't very happy during this cruise.

Our cabin had numerous water leaks.

We had trouble with NCL concerning their failure to return our money when our air flight had been cancelled. This dispute continued for months.

Some years later, we took another cruise with NCL and it was great. The service was exceptional.

Two years after that, we took another cruise on Norwegian Wind. We were back to the plumbing, staff problems and reservation problems.

We did not have these kinds of problems with any of the other companies we have cruised with (14 cruises).

Now that Carnival is no longer offering Paradise as a smoke-free ship, I will no longer be sailing with Carnival. I am sure that many passengers who really appreciated Paradise feel likewise.

TYI Dolphins about Paradise!
I am absolutely disgusted by this!
Still remember those cross channel ferries smells of Gitane or other strong cigarettes.
It only went worse in RCCL when people smoked cigars in the small Crown lounge!
The only interest I have in large ships is that the atriums may disperse smoke better!
Yes, I suffered like you, specially as a crew member!
Staff rooms were off-limit to non-smokers!
ssLewis, who watched many Dolphins from the clean air decks!

Why avoid Carnival and reward the lines that never even tried to operate a smoke-free ship? (Unless the only thing one liked about Carnival was the smoke-free option.)

Can't they get filtration's to "suck" the smoke out rooms or better yet offer one bar that offers smoking and have the rest of the ship free of smoking ?! Or dose that cost too much ?

IM a smoker but have no problem going out side to smoke but in the past Carnival said you could not even do that on deck... I know smoking makes people mad so that's why i go out side but why band it on deck out side ?

We've only had one experience that we truly disliked, and the cruise itself was just fine--the ship had problems, however. That was on the old Westerdam. So far as we could determine, the stretch on that ship affected her reaction to certain seas, and she was the only ship that ever came close to making us ill. And on that particular cruise, a LOT of the experienced cruisers had trouble.

There was also trouble with debarkation, a "broken" ramp, etc., that almost caused many of our group members to miss their flights. Their chant, on the way to the airport, was "NO MORE HAL!!!" But, as I said, it was only that ship, not the cruise line in general.

I would go on a HAL cruise today, with no qualms. And the Westerdam is gone.

The Costa Atlantica...

The food was very bland, and the entertainment was horriable! They had too much Italian in it!

Imagine, too much Italian on an Italian ship. What were they thinking...

Firstly: Why not have smoking rooms aboard ships like they did on the early ships such as Aquitania and Olympic???

Secondly: The idea of a smoke free ship is great because not only does it stop others having to breathe the smoke but it reduces the small but significant risk of fire. Smoking on deck offers no prevention against fire, as there are no little sprinklers on deck to prevent fire... I guess that was the rationale behind Paradise. Health and Safety.

Some ships still do. Celebrity used to have Cigar lounges, for example.

Although I'm sure it is possible, I cannot recall a fire a sea being started by a cigarrette, it is often electrical, or an engine problems or staff welding!

Personally I think the world should be smoke free...but that is another post!

I took a 2 day cruise to nowhere on the now-laying-at-the-bottom-of-the-Atlantic Premier Seabreeze. That may have been the oldest, least maintained, blandest food ship in modern history. Not to mention that the plumbing sounded like it was going to go any second! She had a nice exterior profile being an original Costa liner, but my-oh-my did Premier stink.

My first cruise was on the Costa Atllantica 3 years ago. It was horrible. The food was gross. The entertainment was gross. The welcome buffet was fish sticks and pizza!! My mother who paid the tab for 8 of us to go had a piece of dental floss in her mouth after biting into the pizza!!!. But we laughed so hard about how bad it was that we actually had fun. And didnt gain any weight because the food was so bad.
