No, I don't see any princess ships moving to Cunard. However, I would not be surprised to see Carnival Corp order a Coral Princess-class ship for Cunard.

I think the Coral-class is a much better fit for Cunard than the Vista-class ship. Then again we may see Coral-class go to P&O.

I don't know- I think Carnival's whole UK line up is botched. I really don't like P&O and Cunard both being owned by Carnival.

But these two ships are pretty much the same?

Of the present Princess fleet, Royal Princess is probably the best fit for a possible transfer to Cunard. Hoever the question would be if Cunard would want some second-hand tonnage when they have two newbuilds coming along and they plan a 2004 refurnishing of their flagship the Queen Elizabeth 2. Royal Princess is good for exotic cruises and with the Queen Elizabeth 2 soon to occupy this territory for Cunard once the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria come on stream, it might be difficult to see any advantage to having a 1980's era ship such as Royal Princess around. A more realistic possibility for Cunard would be a second Vista class ship or a more modern midsize ship in the 800 to 1,200 passenger range than is Royal Princess.

I've wondered for a while what would become of Royal Princess. Here is what I think:

I think she'll stay in the Princess fleet but be transfered to P&O Australia to sail beside the new Pacific Princess. She will help expand P&O's premium branch in Australia alongside the mass market Pacific Sky and Pacific Sun (ex Jubilee).

I just don't see any other good place for Royal Princess within the Carnival Corp family. She is too old for Cunard or P&O (UK). Too small for any US brand. To different for Costa's fleet or Aida. And too big for Swan Hellenic or Seabourn.

She lacks the amount of restaurants…

Maybe HAL is also a good choice?

Onno : how about with a "QE2 style" funnel, seeing as they seem hellbent on matching them all now...

P & O/Princess operated Pacific Princess and Island Princess for about 30 years.
The royal princess was born as a cruise ship which has all outside cabins with bath tub
I strongly desire that the Royal princess will not to transfer to the other company.

How about Carnival transferring Costa Europa to Cunard?
She has a huge funnel QE2 style!
Some bow job would be needed though!

When browsing through some of my Royal Princess pictures I noticed that two years ago (before the Carnival takeover) the RP had the P&O flag raised in her bow flagpole, while now (after the takeover) she has a white flag with the Princess logo raised there.

Doe anyone know why this is? RP still carries the green P&O logo behind the bridge, so why is the P&O flag replaced with a Princess flag?

Best, Onno

Onno, even before the takeover, some of Princess's ships lost the "P&O" logo on the side... Maybe P&O Princess were trying to seperated the product a little?

Fairsky, I agree - would love to see Royal Princess transferred to P&O Australia! I think she would do well down here for "premium cruising" for those of us not interested in Pacific Sky/Sun.

Why do you think Royal Princess is "upscale" from Pacific Sky? Her cabins are much much smaller. There is very little teak decking-just squishy soggy astroturf. The aft decks are so narrow you can't place a deck lounger there. The forwards decks are so noisy with the roaring of the air intakes an air conditioners that normal conversation is impossible. Those bath tubs are so small, only a tot could lay out in them! Narrow corridors. Low ceilings. Cramped dining room. Never get a cabin on the top deck as the aluminum is so thin you can heard and feel every footstep. If you think she is upscale, I could not disagree more. The beachs of India or Pakistan is where she should be, and her arrival there is several years overdue!!

Grant, I believe that you did't post above thread if you didn't saw ""premium cruising" in the thread

Please loves Royal Princess same as Albatros

Space Ratio : Albatros 33.33 / Royal Princess 37.5

If I spoke German, I would probably take a trip on Albatross, as she has great itineraries as well as being a super vessel.

I have sailed on Royal Princess 3 times, and still love the "old" lady. IMHO there is teak decking to spare, and have never had a problem with a deck chair on any of the aft stepped lido decks. In fact, it's my preferred place to spend my outside time while aboard. That being said, beverage service there can be a bit spotty...

Yes, Royal Princess is getting a little long in the tooth in some places: cabin bathrooms come immediately to mind. Plumbing is beginning to show its age, but hey, aging plumbing was part of what made Rotterdam V so much fun!

I think Royal Princess is really an icon. Just think of her unique features when she debuted: all outside cabins, all cabins with bath tubs, a deck and a half of balconies, etc. If not an icon, certainly a trend-setter...

As for profile, it's hard to think of a prettier ship.

You forgot one fact... Royal Princess was christened by Princess Diana. And if memory serves... I believe Princess stated after Diana's death that the ship would never have it's name chnaged.
