Maurice
One Cruise was out Mombasa to Zansibar, Comores and Madagascar, the second was out of the Seychelles back to Mombasa.
It is an very good Destination to cruise, i think, one of the best all over the World.
The Ship is old and little. You smell Diesel Oil in the lower Decks, you hear the Noise of the Engine, the Cabins are small.
But Food and Service are at that Time much better than 2 Stars, the African Safari Club has an own DC 30 Airplane, which brings each Day from Europe Passengers to Kenya. On this Way, they bring the Food too from Europe to the Ship.
The Food is bought in our Region and in Switzerland, you can expect very delicious Meals.
The Chiefcook at that Time was Hans Stehle, born in 1948 in Hausach, the same Place and Doctor, where i was born in 1958 (Dr. Katz, Hospital in Hausach).
Maitre d was an Indonesian, the other Cooks from the Philippines.
The Ship was not dirty, but some Parts you can see it is old and needs Renovation, it is now 48 Years old.
On the first Cruise in 1995 we had only 109 Passengers, and a Crew of about 130. There was 1 Seating in the Dining Room.
On the second Cruise we are 195 Pax, and 2 Seatings.
The Menu was creative, the Food fresh cooked, not the Catering as at MSC, Costa and other Companies.
If you can get an good Price for the Cruise - my Advise is: DO IT!!
Please note: There is no Breakfast Service in the Cabins. You must stand up and go to Restaurant or the Lido Buffet for Breakfast. But you can order some Filet Steaks in the Morning, no Problem, they prepare them fresh. Egg Dishes are to be ordered too, other Items are on the Buffet. They change the Items dayly, so the next morning it looks some different.
The Aftenoon Tea and Cakes are poor, but Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are better than on a lot of big Ships.
Friendly and personal Athmosphere - of Course, in an short Time everybody knews everybody on Board...
But they have an British Ships Doctor on Board, he can help, if the Tablets from the Reception Desk for free do not.
He treated me in 1995, when i suffer from the Sun without an Hat on my Head, outside the Ship in Madagascar. The City is called Hellville, i knew now why
I thougt, it could be Malaria from the Safari before, but it was the Sun on my Head. I feel sick, loose an little bit Orientation and back on the Ship i had Fever Symptoms. It was more than 40 degree Celsius and it is near Aequator. The Sun is very strong.
In the Night i lay down in my Cabin and missed the Gala Buffet but next Day it was better. Doctor was very experienced, he lives for an long Time in Kenya and is now on the Royal Star as Ships Doctor.
