What the heck happened to the front superstructure and the front upper decks NCL !! YUCK! I rather have the AMCV version. As for the hull, I think it is too fancy and too colorful IMO. What I do like is the additional mid-section gave her a sleeker look along with the new funnel which is a smaller version of STAR and DAWN's. The new mast looks alright.

Hey it looks like NCL has more interior drawings!IMO they are also too fancy with colors.

Once again, I disagree! I like it, the hull is not as flashy as Dawns, and the ship itself looks like a mix between NCL Dawn and Spirit class! Her cabins however, if you enlarge the picture, look as if they are done in woodwork, YUCK!

I agree. More plainer than Dawns Miami and statue of liberty

Where do you see DAWN ? The "body", I see SPIRIT(and MILLY-class, CORAL-class, and ZUIDERDAM-class), but the front looks like it was influence by AIDA's ships. You never know what the final result is. Many ships final result didn't exactly look like early exterior drawings. Now, why doesn't the Diamond Head Auditorium have windows like what the interior rederings shows?

I AGREE ! Maybe a retro-look of oceanliners's wood panels ? The bedsheets reminds me of American Hawaii Cruises's funnel graphic/colors !

The Liberty Restaurant is a complete turnoff to me. Cramped looking. Cheap looking. I would never eat in such a yuck place!

In fact, I don't much like anything about this floating motel! Well, the pool area did look inviting!

PS:
Given the size of their fleet, it is hard to imagine that NCL will keep and deploy the SS Norway. But, that is another topic!

Its hard to say. I think NCL is short of ships in the "NCL" fleet. I think there is too much ships in the NCL America fleet.

I actually like the hull colors, which surprises me just a bit. I prefer it over NORWEGIAN DAWN that is for sure.

Even so, I will have to take a pass on PRIDE OF AMERICA. For a ship cruising the Hawaiian Islands, she is severely lacking any kind of enclosed observation lounge, either forward or aft. There are just not enough windows in prime locations.

Unfortunately, NCL decided to turn a prime spot for a forward observation lounge into a large meeting room/auditorium with absolutely no windows. Big mistake IMO, but typical of the crap NCL pulls to increase the bottom line.

NCL recently started charging $10 per day to use the indoor pool/spas on NORWEGIAN DAWN. Pretty pathetic for a ship that only has ONE outdoor pool, which will be unusable for several days each cruise this winter out of NY. The only other option was the indoor pool, which NCL conveniently started charging for. Apparently enough people complained and the fee has been removed.... at least for now. It reminds me of when NCL was charging $2 per room service order several years back. NCL is still charging for some so-called "headliner" shows onboard their ships. To my knowledge they are the only line to do so.

They don't call FreeStyle Cruising "FeeStyle" for nothing!

Setting:- "Bean counters" meeting any given day.

bc#1 "We need to find a way to increase revenue, improve the bottom line".

bc#2 "Let"s charge for using the indoor pool".

Head bc "Now that works for me. We will give it a try and if we get too much flak, we can always back off. I'll put it to the bossman (as my idea, naturally) today".

weeks later.....

Bossman "get rid of the pool charge. Too much ill will generated from it".

Head bc "You got it bossman. I told those guys that their idea wasn't a good one"

Whatja think guys, did it go down pretty much like this? I wonder?

remember, this ship is to have
a hawwaiian theme. to reflect
the colors and mood of hawwaii.

this is not a transatlantic oceanliner like qm2.
the only thing i miss is the big
fantail of ss independence. you
could get a great view of hawwaii from there.

I don't find a steel enclosed windowless auditorium to have anything to do with Hawaii. It's all about onboard revenue and the hopes NCL America will get a lions share of the incentive business due to the ability of a tax write-off (something that could not be done on foreign flag ships).

Almost *all* new passenger ships have some type of observation lounge/bar, not just transatlantic liners of which QM2 is really the only qualification.

If NCL is successful in obtaining incentive groups, be prepared to be "left out" as an individual onboard PRIDE OF AMERICA. NCL will most likely cater to the incentive groups (blocking off rooms, sections of the dining rooms, etc) as they are lucrative business. The individual passenger might feel left out, at least on certain sailings when the group bookings are high. Just another reason this ship has little appeal to me.

What a bunch of grouches. It's Hawaii, a land of more color and vibrancy than other places. Plus, your language is so unprofessional for these boards. Yes, you are entitled to your opinions, but let's be thankful we can cruise and are alive to enjoy and do so. Forget the "bean counters"
which exist everyweher today. Do you think NCL is doing this as a charitable organization?

Here is what PA would have turned out if it was still under AMCV:

Note that the auditorium replaced a 2 level(?) observation lounge. There were more balcony staterooms facing the bow too. Which one do you guys like better? The new or old?

I would like to know how the language is unprofessional for these boards? Do you mind explaining?

Sorry if we are not all rah rah over NCL America. I am a realist and tell it the way I see it. If you can't take it, tough. Go back to seeing things through rose colored glasses.

Who are you anyway? Would you mind signing your post, it's so easy to hide behing a screen name and it might give you a tad more credibility. Seems you have one post to your name and suddenly you are the expert on what is unprofessional language on these boards. What a joke.

Ernie,

I agree with you. Why would any company build a modern cruise vessel that did not include an enclosed observation lounge is beyond my understanding? Especially for a ship that is going to sail in a scenic area like Hawaii or Alaska. This is a real mistake. I for one am disappointed in the plans for this ship. Maybe she will be better when she is finished. What is the purpose of the auditorium? The ship has a theatre right? I hate cruises where there are large groups booked. On Radiance of the Seas last year, you could almost never use the Crown Lounge because a group had functions up there every day all day. It seemed unfair, since we all paid to use the ship. This is of course different if the groups are using a conference facility, which is of no use to the average passenger. Maybe this is the purpose of the auditorium. How crazy to put the auditorium with no windows in such a prime location. This is really a let down.

Seatrial,
Atlanta GA

Hi Seatrial,
I think you and I are on the same page. I'm not so against PRIDE OF AMERICA having a conference room (which is basically what this auditorium is), but the location leaves much to be desired. Why put it in the premier location on the entire ship, then close it up and don't even offer windows? Craziness!

RCI and Celebrity have beautiful conference rooms, but they are placed lower in the ship and most people don't even know they are there. That is how it should be. I might also add those on Celebrity also offer beautiful windows to the sea, but no other windows were sacrificed in public lounges to make this possible.

It's my understanding the auditorium can be used as one large room, or split up into many conference rooms. Great for meetings, but useless to the average passenger that will never benefit from it.

Ernie

I agree with you guys seatrial and Ernie. Not only is it in a spot more suitable for a observation lounge, but it also makes the ship looks unattractive. In fact, I think the auditorium does not belong on this ship at all.

Actually, there are five conference room in a clutter aft of the auditorium and a tiny lounge (on the portside). Another reason why I think the auditorium does not belong. Click link below for visual.

I totally agree about the conference space- its a good revenue producing idea- terrible placement.

Here is something else that would have significantly improved the look of the ship. If you recall when NCL aquired the hull for Norwegian Sky which began life as Costa Olympia- sister ship to Costa Victoria... NCL changed the location of the bridge by lowering it one deck. This made space for a forward observation lounge above- and gave a more balanced appearance to the front of the ship.

I think a similar treatment would have greatly improved Pride of America. Her bridge is too high, the forward superstructure too tall and stark, and the lack of observation lounge is tragic.
