Hi all! I just stepped in my house! I was on the RHAPSODY of the SEAS this past week and I noticed something really strange. I recieved a "Save the Wave" booklet and in the back, both the "Royal Caribbean Internation" and "Celebrity Cruises" logo are printed there. Then I visited the "Crown and Anchor Study" and saw that there were a whole set of Celebrity brochures placed on each of the 5 tables. I also heard the Loyal Ambassador lady tell this couple that RCI only needs one ship "down under" and a Celebrity ship will do it instead of sending LEGEND of the SEAS. What the heck is RCI thinking? Marketing both companies together?

RCCL and Celebritiy IS the same company. (RCI).

Just two diffrent brands. The samething that Carnival corp. is the mothercompany for:

Carnival, Cunard, Seaborn, HAL, Windstarr and Costa.

From my understanding, RCCL has been "renamed" to RCI. The mother company has a name. I think it is Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd...????

Now this part I don't get. How is it same to what you said above? RCI is a cruise line, but Carnival Corp. is NOT a cruise line . I have been on a Carnival cruise and I didn't see any stuff with other "sister" companies logo embedded on the items onboard. Also, when does Carnival say, "Oh we only need a few ships in Alaska"? Carnival Corp. got all of their North America companies in Alaska.

This could get interesting as a really good nit picking exercise.

To the best of my knowledge, Carnival Corporation comprises Holland America, Cunard and so on as operating divisions.

RCI is also a Corporation, Celebrity being an operating division.

This is arguable, but I think that our real experts on these subjects must be away on vacation right now.

Hope this helps.

Whats wrong with marketing your upscale brand on your mass market ships? Newcomers who could have afforded an upscale brand but decided to go with the mass marketed ship may appreciate the information and the opportunity to book a future cruise with them. Those who are perfectly happy with the current product will come back to Royal Caribbean on the next trip.

It's probably more difficult for Carnival to cross market their brands because their brands are so different from each other. Celebrity and even HAL seem to be a logical next step up from Royal Caribbean, whereas Carnival to HAL seem father apart. But Carnival Corp seems to be doing fine marketing their brands separately anyways.

Yes, you are right. I think a cross-over between RCI and Celebrity is more likely. I've done both.

Carnival's aim is for the different brands to reach different members of the cruising public.
