From Star Cruises:
quote:
Star Cruises is deploying two of the world’s most luxurious cruise ships, the SuperStar Leo and the SuperStar Virgo to new bases in Sydney and Perth, Australia respectively. The ships are due to arrive on Thursday, 24th April 2003 - SuperStar Leo in Cairns, North Queensland and SuperStar Virgo in Perth.

SuperStar Leo and SuperStar Virgo have been operating in Hong Kong and Singapore since their delivery from Europe in 1998 and 1999 respectively. The two ships have over the years enhanced the skylines of two of Asia’s leading air-sea hubs.

“The decision to deploy the ships to Australia is a result of the continuing market challenges and difficult operating conditions we have been facing in our core markets in Asia which warranted an immediate review of the ships’ current itineraries. Star Cruises is using the advantage of the deployment flexibility of its ships to operate the larger vessels in non-affected SARS countries,” said Mr. Chong Chee Tut, Star Cruises’ Chief Operating Officer.

With these latest moves, it looks like Star might enter the Austrillian market pretty soon.

I'm sure Star would not go into the Australian market unless they knew they we're going to do well! With their past experience, I think we will see Star doing a few other interesting moves in the near future!! Look what their NCL did, So who is making Big Waves in the Cruise Industry???

I see Carnival's divisions are getting hit everywhere by NCL/Star very slowly, it takes time!!

Star have been considering an Australian based ship for some years. The SARS crisis has proved the unexpected opportunity to do so but as a result of necessity rather than good planning. This may well prove the market can sustain at least one full time Star ship and may also bring forward the replacemnt of Pacific Sky with something newer & larger, but not necessarily better, from the Carnival/Princess fleet.
