Hi All,

This is the latest press release from Star Cruises.
I commend them for taking this step to help prevent SARS from spreading.

I am wondering if this will also affect SuperStar Aries' itinerary in Taiwan?

Press Release 14 April 2003

TWO OF STAR CRUISES' CREW DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITALS IN MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE

Star Cruises wishes to inform that the two crew who were reported to be admitted at the Langkawi Hospital, Malaysia on 7th April 2003 and Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 9th April 2003 have recovered.

The crew in the Langkawi Hospital who was treated as "probable SARS" has been discharged and placed under "home" quarantine for a further ten days, in line with recommended procedures with regards to handling of SARS cases in designated hospitals.

The crew who was admitted to the Tan Tock Seng hospital in Singapore as a "suspect case" has recovered and certified fit to be discharged.

Since the onset of SARS in certain countries in the region, Star Cruises has been closely monitoring the situation and has taken every proactive and preventive measure within its capacity. Such measures have included, but not limited to, sending of crew who is unwell on any of the slightest symptoms related to SARS to land-based hospitals. This drastic measure was taken to protect the ship, passengers and crew.

Star Cruises is also working very closely with the Ministries of Health, port authorities and port health offices of Malaysia and Singapore in its endeavour to arrest the SARS situation.

Given the severity of the situation and the number of cancellations resulting therefrom, which has affected the Company's operations and business in the region, Star Cruises has also taken the prudent and decisive step to cancel the present itineraries of SuperStar Virgo and SuperStar Leo for the months of April and May and April to July respectively.

Star Cruises is presently planning for the new itineraries of the twin ships which will be announced this week.

- END -

This looks to be good news for cruisers in Australia, as Sydneyboy i think pointed out in another post, Star Cruises have already booked Leo into Sydney for April-July, obviously deciding to use it as a temporary hub for the ship.

With such late notice we should get some great deals. Horrible to think that such a perrilous situatuation (SARS) in Asia is actually giving us a great oportunity to see a fantastic ship, but guess we should always look at the bright side
