Carnival has an itinerary that puts one in San Juan from 5pm to midnight. It would be hard to go ashore and not miss dinner, huh? What is there to do in San Juan after sunset?

tg - other than taking in a show at one of the hotels or doing an excursion that the ship may offer to one of the shows at a hotel, there really is nothing to do in San Juan at night. It's not safe to walk the streets at night. Oh, you could go across the street to the Wyndam Hotel and visit the Casino.
I don't know about the ship you are going on, but when a HAL ship is there in the evening they usually have a BBQ that night. We used to just stay on the ship and enjoy ourselves.

That's very similar to Celebrity's Century itinerary. Most folks on early seating eat dinner then go ashore. Late seating folks go ashore then come back and eat dinner.

Then there are those folks who dine ashore.

No. .. other than some offered nighttime excursions... there's not much happening in San Juan at night. I like to take a taxi over to the Condado and hit the casinos. The one at the Wyndham OSJ is too tight. Try the Ambassador. That's where the locals play.

Most of the major cruise lines also offer an alternate to the main dining rooms. I beleive on Carnival they have what they call the seaview bistro. In the evening they offer a casual buffet dinner that lasts until around 8:30 - 9:00pm in the cafe area every night except the last night. Plus there is room service but many times they only offer sandwiches.

The Victory and Triumph have this as part of their itineraries in fall, 2003. They leave Miami on Sat. at 4pm and get to San Juan at 5pm Sunday. Faster than most, huh?
By the way, it seems Carnival has nudged their repositionings and modified some schedules. It's a little tricky to plan.

I was looking old printouts from Yahoo Cruises! and saw this itenary too. I think with the huge amounts of capacity in the Caribbean, cruise lines wants to spread their passengers out.
