I think Romantic Cruise Lines is still considering the Rembrandt.

I highly doubt that any Premier "employees" would be able to come up with the $$$ to start a new cruise line and run those older ship which are very costly to run. It's not practical to think that "employees" could or even would want to start up a new cruise line with those old ships. Most of the "employees" with Premier went to other cruise lines or quit working on the ships.

I thought that outfit was finally extinct. Their plan sounded rather dumb anyhow. Their "time-shares" would be more money than just booking a cruise, and having the choice of ship or line!

I would never do something like that which would force me to stay with one line...

Just as I would use the millions of $s a "vacation house" on THE WORLD costs and take cruises on all different ships and lines!

Variety is the spice of life for me when it comes to cruising - I like to try different things.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Geno-r, dambrosi, what coloring did each of you propose?

As for "Carnivore" I take it that is a compliment to them as you obviously are a cat-lover and cats are carnivores.

Good luck cat-finding. I'm sure a great one will find you .

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

I would stay with Bright Red. The Big Red Boat concept made money for years until inept management sunk it.

Geno-r, are you trying to put a "please kick me" sign on you? I have a feeling that anyone suggesting the Rembrandt be painted red will probably end up being abducted by a vicious mob of HAL fanatics ...

I think blue is better, please. No red for me. You want a red ship, use something else.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

I think koch and I heard the same rumours. Reportedly, plans for the preservation of the Rembrandt in Amsterdam have been just about finalised. Contrary to this (fairly reliable) report, International Shipping Partners (owners of Big Red Boat III, BRB II, and Rembrandt have announced that Big Red Boat II and Rembrandt have been chartered to an unamed operator and will be returning to service shortly. I find this very unlikely, as Rembrandt has a rather limited operational future, and if the other rumour is correct she already has a future. Big Red Boat II has had a history of mechanical problems, and with so many other second-hand tonnage available, why pick her? Still, I highly doubt that ISP would just make something like this up- so maybe it is true?

I find it a bit strange that no one is interested in the BRB III (ex-FESTIVALE). With the large refit she had when she started cruising and (presumably?) a good maintenance history, she would surely be the most attractive proposition (or should we say least unatttractive?) of the three ships? BRB II´s machinery was already worn out when Costa offloaded her to Bremer Vulkan (the now bankrupt builders of the COSTA VICTORIA) in ´96.
The REMBRANDT´s full 1950s interiors probably don´t make her very suitable for mass market operators (thankfully, no "philistines" have shown up yet with plans to rip those interiors out!). BTW, I very much doubt that REMBRANDT will ever really make the crossing to Amsterdam (it should have been Rotterdam anyway! )
Probably, environmental agencies will kick up such a fuss about the asbestos present on the ship, that lots of work will have to be done on the ship. It would be a shame if that happened, but I´m affraid it would...

I don't know, according to Mark Goldberg's review of Big Red Boat III here on Travelpage, she really hasen't been maintained all that well, and her interiors are very worn, outdated, and downright shabby. He also mentions that the hallways smelled like a public bathroom, and the air vent in his cabin spit clouds of dirt into the room- two things I really could do without on a cruise. Strange that Thompson cancelled their charter contract, she would have fit right in with The Topaz.
