Airtours cruises seem to have an identity crisis! As far as I’m aware Airtours Sun Cruises has changed the name of all their brands to ‘My Travel’.

However, their new cruise brochure featuring April 2003 to October 2003 is still called ‘Airtours’?

I had assumed it was because it had been printed pre-name change? However the photographs inside show the ships in the new livery! Mind you the new livery was probably added by photoshop?

So what are Airtours Cruises really called now?

Above: The popular Sunbird with new logo!

OOooooooooh the humanity!
They have raped that beautiful! Malcolm, if you can, scan in the one of the Seawing...brings a tear to my eye!

Anyhoo, the way I see it is...
the Sun Cruises name was only ever "theoretical"; at the end of the daythey were ALWAYS Airtours Cruises (the credit slips/receipts onboard sometimes said Sun Cruises, sometimes, Sunwing Cruises (another brand purchased by Airtours plc.). When they implemented the MyTravel brand, their best bet was to push Sun Cruises as its own thing - brochures could have been in their name or even MyTravel, and they could have kept the VERY handsome appearance of the ships.

Orange and blue curves just don't work on a "luxury liner" (nor does sky blue and a red smile for that matter, THOMSON HOLIDAYS!)

Paddy.

Hello,

Ugh! UGLY! Now, which is worse, that or Thomson?

For that matter, I quite dislike the additional enclosure added over the bridge to house the new suites when she became Sunbird... Then again, I suppose I would not understand it, as I never take a suite...

Also, as Sunbird, you have always still been able to see the "raised" plating along the side of the ship that was painted blue by RCCL. In my opinion, that livery, with the stripe, was the way she was designed, and the way she looked best...

Happy Cruising,
CruiseNY

During my recent cruise on the Costa Europa I have seen the Sundream at La Valletta painted in the new colours and with a large " My Travel " logo on the hull. It appeared simply very very ugly. I haven't ever much liked the livery of Sun Cruises but the new orange type is simply orrible ( it recalls a poor version of Hapag Lloyd Cruises ). It seems that the british based companies are choosing very strange and unappealing colours for their ships ( Also Thomson Cruises and Island Cruises has done bad choices ).

Rumour has it the Sundream and Carousel are beginning to experience corrosion of bulk heads etc. After all, they are both over thirty years old, but have not had the multi-million pound refits that the QE2 has had!

The word on the street suggests that Airtours (or whatever they are called now) will be looking to replace these ships in the near very future, with one or two bigger ships?

If you were responsible for sourcing two new ships for Airtours/MyTravel what would you choose and why?

I think that the Holiday class from Carnival might not be a bad choice. They would need some refurbishment, but are a good size (48000GRT), and have nice roomy cabins. I think that their decor could use some refreshening, but they are lively fun ships, good for a holiday...

Hello,

Ditto Thad's suggestion. Carnival's Holiday class would be most appropriate... Now, if only Carnival still was tied in with Airtours - but some excecs might still be friends?

Hey!

It seems like Airtours/Sun Cruises/My Travel can´t make up their mind, in what way they shall present their logotype on their ships. I took this two photos last week. So the photo of Sunbird, that are used in the Reader Reviews aren´t correct.

Anders you need to put the images on the web somewhere so we can see them, either on a site of your own or the CruisePage Gallery. We can't see into your E drive I'd love to see that Odessa one.

Hello,

I've sent Anders a Private Message explaining that he needs to have them on the web first.

It seems that posting photos is often a problem... The method really isn't as self-explanatory as it should be, however it is good enough that I figured it out, unlike some other boards, where the method is entirely inexplicable... Infopop I find is the best message board software I've seen, it is relatively easy to use compared with some others that are really horrible.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Anders,

You can also embed the photos into your posts like you had tried to if you want to do so. Just right-click the photo when you view it in the gallery, and then click Properties. A window will pop up and an http address for that photo will be one of the things in it. Highlight that address and then right-click and click Copy. Then into the "Image" field when posting your message you can press right-click and press Paste to put in the address. Then you have embedded the code for the image into your post.

Hope this makes sense . Now going to have a look at your photos.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Hello (again),

But Carousel with a plain orange funnel and the silly little MyTravel oval stuck on the hull is extraordinarily ugly - Anders' photo:
