The tipping debate had me amused, but I like this one even more so. P&O are charging $5 per adult per day for fuel on top of the full fare. For 1500 passengers on a 10 day cruise thats $75 000.
Now I can't imagine a ship is cheap to run, but when they sit around their boardroom and work out their fares for the year, did someone forget to factor in that without fuel, the ship's not going anywhere, and therefore can hardly be called a cruise. Maybe this is where the term 'floating hotel' came from!!!

I'd not heard of this?

I do recall,many years ago fuel surcharges were common on top of flights from the UK.

However a newspaper reporter did the maths based on a Jumbo Jet's fuel consumption and the surcharge, per person, that had been charged would fill the jet's tanks twice over.

It was simply another way of ripping us off!

Malcolm, in germany we had the same, it was the Time End of 70ties, beginning 80ties of last Century when Fuel Prices EXPLODED.

At the Moment, no Price for Fuel is in Explosion, it may be in the worst Case an moderate more.

there is no Reason for Extra-Charging.

In Germany, it is forbidden by law, to Charge extra between the last 4 Months from your Travel Date back.

And for all others, they can give the booking back without any Costs. Prepaid money is immediately to give back.

It is another Sort of Rip-off!!

Malcolm...I think you'll find cottonwool is talking about the P&O Australia. They like us in Canada have been taking a beating on our currency against the US$. and oil prices are based on US$ worldwide.
Amerikanis' rants are of course irrelevent to the subject.

Yes, sorry, I didn't make it clear that it was P&O Australia. The levy finishes in about 3 weeks, but has been in place for around 6-8 months. I just thought it amusing.
