Can anyone confirm what i heard this morning on the radio--that Rennaisance cruiseline has gone bankrupt? Indicated that passengers were being sent home. If cruiseline goes bankrupt while you are cruising, is the passenger stuck(unless they have travel insurance)with making their own way back home?

(Sorry for double post under "cruise ships" as well)

Found his on another site:

"Carnival Corp. Chairman Micky Arison raised some eyebrows this week when he predicted five cruise lines will soon go out of
business. Clearly, no foreign flag carrier is going to get a bail-out.

The first to go will probably be Renaissance, which shut its doors at noon Tuesday. Those calling res hear a message saying
that "due to technical difficulties, the reservations office is closed." Don't expect it to reopen soon.

"Basically, there was a notice sent to the employees about cessation of cruise operations and termination of employment,"
reports VP-Sales Jim Henwood. "We're taking care of clients making sure they get back home."

Becky Piper of CruiseOne in Ohio tells of a honeymooner due to leave on the R8 tonight from Barcelona: "They were told the
ship had mechanical problems and were put in a hotel. Nobody from Renaissance showed up. But someone found out they had
already been booked on return flights to their home destinations."

Will Renaissance tie up the ships and wait until things normalize again or completely stop operating? At presstime, it's unclear,
though sources say Renaissance's last chance would be shipyards putting in new money, which would be unlikely."

This is the problem when you are not booked with a CLIA cruise line, the rules are not as stringent.

Check out today's (9/26) edition of The Wall Street Journal, Section B, page 6, they have the story. Renaissance has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. It appears the shutdown is taking place at this very moment.
